A solemn place for prayer. A breeze of fresh air because of the trees around the area. The church has large opening walls for the wind to swirl inside the church.

The church built by none less than 4 national artists!
A beautiful church from its architectecture to it's tapestries to its center cross featuring both the crucified christ and the risen Christ! Even its floor design was designed by a national artist!

The last time I was here, I was with my fiancé. Luckily, upon entering the chapel, a mass will be held on. It was a blessing for us to attend mass here, every time we visited this place. It's very solemnly and quite.

Right after mass, you can approach any of the priest presided to ask for a private blessing on yourself and your religious matters. 🙏🏻

The Church of the Holy Sacrifice is located in UP Diliman, along Laurel Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila, beside the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice and the UP Health Service.

This Church had been my Sunday habit for the 14 years that I resided at the periphery of the UP Diliman campus. It is situated at the roadside right in front of the UP Infirmary and across the back-side of the Kalayaan Hall (dormitory). There are several masses on Sundays, one English Mass in the morning and another one in the afternoon. The protestant church, Church of the Risen Lord is at the right-front side across the adjacent block. A Holy Eucharist is celebrated at noontime (between 12:00nn to 1:00pm). It has a circular shape nestled at the center of parks shaded with big old Acacia trees and old calachuchi shrubs grown tall through time, rendering the atmosphere inside and outside cool and serene, that the faithful, even in solitude and in prayer, finds it very comforting - practically feeling God's embrace.

Unlike most church structures which are enclosed to foster the atmosphere of serenity and solemnity, the Church of the Holy Sacrifice is relatively open, without any doors to its 12 entrances which are symmetrically laid out in the dome-shaped structure. While inside the church, you have a clear view of the surrounding grounds covered by trees and plants... making you feel like you are inside but at the same time part of the outside world. And yet, there is nevertheless that feeling of serenity and solemnity that you feel, as you focus your attention to the center of the church where the altar is located, with the cross hanging from the ceiling's center. Upon a closer observation, the flooring of the church is also a mural, representing some sort of a river converging on the altar. Another impressive feature are the paintings on the 15 walls, depicting the images of the stations of the cross.

I can't really consider this a travel destination since I go here every Sunday for mass. For me, it is the place I go to worship. But I guess for outsiders, it is quite unique with its dome structure with lots of artwork from the floor, to the walls, to the altar.
For me, what's more intersting is the history of how it was made. According to my UP professor, it is named "church of the holy sacrifice" because when it was being constructed, students and professors would sacrifice and contribute their hard earned money, peso by peso, to put up this church. Artists shared their talent for free. The church is a testament to the sacrifices of those students, professors and artists for their faith and for their God.

This is a unique structure inside the University of the Philippines Diliman Campus. Huge murals by a national artist adorn the walls of the circular edifice. A quiet spot in the middle of the campus.

The Church of the Holy Sacrifice is very memorable church for me since my student days at the University of the Philippines. The baptism of my eldest son was also held there. It was a unique experience since the parents are asked to lay the baby on the altar seemingly as a gift back to God. It is a very popular church among the university teachers, students, residents as well as to the families living in the neighboring subdivisions of Ayala Heights, Sikatuna and Teachers' Village and others nearly villages. It has served the spiritual needs of the Catholic laity and has become also a national cultural and historical landmark. Four national artists have contributed their unusual talents during the construction of the Church in the early 1950's. As young graduates in the university, they helped in building the Church. Engr. David Consunji, now heads the foremost construction company in the country today... DMCI. and Engr. Alfredo Juinio for the structural. The dome architectural design was done by National Artist Leandro Locsin. While the huge interior walls exhibited scenes of the way of the cross painted by National Artists: Vicente Manansala, Arturo Luz, and Napoleon Abueva. For the art enthusiasts, the church is a magnificent work of art and unique architectural design which has served over the decades as the beckon of light for the faithful in the entire Diliman area of Quezon City.

I like the circular structure of this place because it imbues a community spirit where everyone is facing the altar. The art works by Manansala on the walls are also a walk the wall experience to behold. This place is very significant for me as I had my wedding here more than 15 years ago.
