Went on a Sunday, ticket costs 50php per person, discounted for senior citizens (40php) and residents of Quezon City. Opening hours on weekends are from 6am to 3-4pm, shorter on weekdays.

The main trails are open but the other areas are still closed: butterfly haven, orchidarium, swimming pools, archery, fishing area. I guess the bike trail is open since there are a number of cyclists when we were there. We didn’t chance upon any open food kiosks so better bring your own water and snacks. There are several picnic tables, a couple of restrooms (wc).

The park could use a bit of sprucing up (a lot actually). I didn’t see any flower trails. I wish visitors who go there will be more responsible about throwing their trash in the proper bins. We saw a lot of plastic cups and empty food wrappers. ☹️

Go here if you want an escape to the busy city.
You can finish around 1-2 hours roaming around.

We also saw a very colorful peacock.

Though limited food stalls available, bring your own foods instead.

The La Mesa Ecopark is located in East Fairview Subdivision, in Quezon City. It is located in the heart of the La Mesa Dam Watershed which is the source of the Metro Manila water supply. The park which used to be a neglected area was recently developed to become a haven where Quezon City folks could escape from the euphoria of urban living. The entrace fee to the La Mesa Ecopark is very affordable P40/adult. Quezon City residents who can present valid ID are even treated to a discounted rate of P20/adult. [More info from the source page]

The long-term goal is to convert the watershed into a huge nature park and bio-diversity reserve for educational purposes and appreciation particularly of school children and of the general public. The park boasts of a lagoon, biking trails, picnic areas and playgrounds.

LA MESA ECOPARK

HOW TO GET THERE

Take Commonwealth Avenue towards Fairview. You will be passing the following landmarks: UP Diliman, Iglesia ni Cristo Templo Central, Ever Gotesco, Sandiganbayan, Litex, Mercury Drugstore. Turn right at East Fairview Subdivision’s Winston St. then right at Marlboro St. all the way to Pall Mall St. where you should turn left. Turn right at the first corner. You will enter the La Mesa Dam Guard House. There is only one road to take then turn left to the parking lot, in front of which is the gate to the park. The lagoon is further down the path. For commuters, take a Fairview-bound FX, bus, or jeepney from Philcoa by the entrance to the University of the Philippines. Take note of the abovementioned landmarks and get off at the East Fairview Subdivision. At the gate, you should find plenty of tricycles that can take you to the Eco Park.

We came here on a Sunday and had a long drive to come here. Prior to this day, I looked at their FB and their open hours says they're open, though their FB seems inactive and had their last post last 2012, I checked in Google and even Tiktok, and seems that they're open. However upon arriving at the entrance, they're closed 😑 the guard said they have a website and not sure yet as to when they'll be back open. But I already checked everywhere and they don't have a website at all.

Hope they can improve their social media presence, customer chat and hotline. None of those posted in FB are working at all. We really want to come here as a family & dogs to unwind, but coming here was a waste of our time and gas, we only just reached the entrance that's all and there seems to be no way to know when they'll be back cus they don't even announce at all. 😑

La Mesa Dam Eco Park is an alternative park one can visit when in Quezon City. It is in the heart of La Mesa Dam watershed and located in the eastern part of Fairview Park Subdivision, near the main gate of the subdivision.

From any point of Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City look for Winston Street where the entrance gate of East Fairview is located (front of Metrobank). If you are coming from EDSA or Quezon Avenue, the entrance gate is to your right. From the guard house turn left on the first street (Dunhill Street), drive straight until you see the guard at the main entrance of the Eco Park. As you drive along the short winding road you will see to your right a parking space. In front of this parking area is the entrance where you can get a boat ride, one of the many activities you can do here.

Aside from the boat ride, you may also want to rent a bike (PhP 70.00 per hour), see the orchids collection and other plants at the Orchidarium, take a dip in the pool (for a separate fee but still a favorite for kids), play volleyball or badminton in one of its many open spaces, skate on the paved pathways, visit the Petron Fitness Center (highly recommended!) or simply sit on your mat and read your book or play your favorite boardgame. There is a place where you can barbeque. The Eco Park has some halls where you can host gatherings or parties so it is a favorite place not only of families or group of friends who want to enjoy the beauty of nature, but also of prayer groups.

The place can be crowded especially on a weekend or holiday so the picnic benches/tables are not enough. Worry not coz one can rent a set of table and 4 chairs for PhP 120.00 a day. The toilets are okay but can be better. There are many stalls where you can buy food and drinks, as well as souvenir items. Prices are reasonable.

Motored vehicles are not allowed inside the picnic area. If you came for a picnic and are carrying a lot, you may borrow a cart for free at the entrance. The place is very safe and clean. What’s more, bringing and drinking liquor inside is strictly prohibited so there is hardly a chance of meeting a person or a group of rowdy people.

The journey of communing with nature begins when you walk your way to the picnic area and see the old tall trees and wild plants... oh you can just feel it in the air you breathe!

La Mesa Eco Park is ok. You would enjoy it unless you have to deal directly with their staff (particularly the "first aid lady" and the "guys at the zip line"). The lady was not helping my friend feel relaxed at all when she had to give her first aid treatment for her foot which was injured when she fell off one of the horses in the park. Instead of making her feel that it was just a simple bruise & she need not worry, she scared her more by telling her "to make a deep breath" so she can "PULL THE SKIN off her toe". In the end, she just had to cut it, which was a lot better than pulling off the skin. On the other hand, two of the zip line crew (which are all male) were just plain "bastos" (disrespectful). They didn't know how to treat their customers right and acted as if they didn't care at all whether you enjoy the activity or not, as long as they enjoy themselves embarrassing you in front of other people. They won't stop saying things that sometimes didn't even matter to the topic on hand. My bf tried to tell the first guy what he did wrong but he became defensive and he told my bf that it was just a joke (same thing I was told). They, or rather HE (coz the other one just disappeared from my sight) only apologized after my bf told him that we have a video of what really happened. IF I WERE THEIR BOSS, I'LL EITHER GET THEM RE-TRAINED OR JUST FIRE THEM IMMEDIATELY. NOT GOOD FRONT LINERS FOR A BUSINESS.

Looking for something else to do than the usual tourist haunts? Well, if you have your mountain bike with you, head to the La Mesa Nature Reserve in Quezon City for some trail riding. They have lots of singletracks!

Bad:
1. Walk-ins are not allowed. You have to book in advance so they can assign a trail guide to you.
2. Minimum of 5 people per group (unless you're willing to shoulder the entrance fees). It P200 per person.
3. The trail is more for XC and Trail Riding. Nothing on the extreme side (for now).
4. Commonwealth Avenue's traffic can get heavy.

Good:
1. If you can't pedal anymore, they have a pick-up truck that can fetch you and bring you back to the parking area.
2. The man-made trails are awesome! They have routes that cater to all levels of riders.

Tips:
1. There are no permanent stores inside the trail network where you can buy food and drinks. Better bring a fully loaded hydration pack.
2. Helmets are required.

Last visit was a decade ago. My husband and I were expecting changes and improvements, hence, the visit. But to our dismay, all lagoons and man made lakes were full not of water but of moss, could pass as a runner up for Boracay!

Calling Ms. Gina Lopez to rehabilitate ASAP. Not all swimming pools are working. We would just want to check on one of the pools but the male attendant refused our entry for no apparent reason.

The whole place is a mess and so dirty!

Will never go back! It sucks!

As I am into bird watching and photography, the pretty birds that are well known at the La Mesa Ecopark was a natural attraction for me.

Among the many species of birds there, the star ones are the Indigo-banded Kingfisher, Spotted Wood Kingfisher, Ashy Thrush, Mangrove-blue Flycatcher and Red-bellied Pitta.

The park, located in Quezon City, is about an hours' drive from downtown Manila on a good traffic day. It is easily accessible by taxi if you do not have a car.

What was really attractive for me was you can go at any time of the day as the birds were said to be around; I didn't have to be there by 6 a.m.

I had linked up with a local who knows the park like the back of his hand. So that was half the task done.

There's a small entry fee of Pesos 55 if you are a foreigner.

The first stop was at a small pond, about a 15-minute walk away. The track was easy to walk on. The small pond attracted the male and female Indigo-banded Kingfisher, two gorgeously indigo and orange-coloured smallish birds, because of the fish in it. They didn't disappoint. After a 15-minute wait, I heard the call and soon after they appeared. They caught the small fish in the pond as well as the dragonflies in the air.

Next, I was brought to see the Red-bellied Pitta. It was a juvenile bird, the radiant adult didn't appear. But that was good enough. Though it can fly, it preferred to hop about the damp muddy ground looking for insects and worms.

Moving up a hillside trail, I spotted a juvenile Ashy Thrush, which merrily hopped on the ground, also looking for grub to eat. What a sight to see this bird at fairly close range.

The following star birds were the Mangrove-blue Flycatcher and Spotted Wood Kingfisher, both male.

If you want to do more than birdwatching in this 33-ha park, there were pony cart rides and cable chair ride which will zip you around at a fairly fast speed.

Affordable food and drinks are available within the park. I had a lunch of grilled milk fish (Bangus) for PHP80, about USD1.85. We came across a soya beancurd hawker and we had bowls of delicious and healthy beancurd, which was covered with brown syrup and small glutinous balls.

There are butterflies and other insects in the gardens and at a larger pond. The trees are luxuriant and a reservoir, which supplies Manila with its water is within the park's grounds.
