So good. The guide was amazingly knowledgeable. I learnt so much about the country history.
The extra guides kept us safe crossing roads and stopping traffic for us. Much grateful since I had an 11 and 9 yr old with me. Wouldn't suggest younger kids have their own bikes unless used to traffic around them.
Some of the bikes had baskets so suggest taking extra drinks as the humidity does drain you. We did the 930 to 12 and that was perfect length.

Tour guide very knowledgeable of the area, flat route and nice easy pace. Lots to see & learn. You also get free ice cream at the end. I love the concept of the bamboo bikes & there’s also an option if you can’t ride a bike too. Beautiful authentic part of the city. Thank you Bambike

We took a taxi to the intramuros area and found the Bambike office - when walking into the shop we were sure that we had found it as there were a lot of Bamboo bikes lined up ;-) It turned out that we were the only guests this day (I guess some had cancelled as the weather forecast showed rain) and we picked the bikes that we wanted and got to take it for a spin in the courtyard before hitting the streets. I went down memory lane by picking one bike that resembled the most popular bike when I was a kid in Norway. Maybe some of you think that it is crazy to combine biking with a city known for its horrible traffic – but it turned out that traffic was not that bad in this part of the town. Our guide Christine had to step in as a substitute for the regular guide as he had run into some problems that morning. It turned out that it was the first time she did the tour but I think she did a great job – especially when she told us that she had only learned how to bike recently.

We biked a bit and stopped at various locations such as San Augustin Church – a church that originally dates back to Spanish colonial times and it dates back to 1586. But we also stopped at The Philippines Presidents’ Gallery and biked along the old city walls.

Note: talking about city walls: Intramuros is latin for “within the walls” apparently.

We biked along the old customs house, inside the old storage house, past the cathedral of Manila and Plaza Roma. We also made a long stop at Fort Santiago as this is an important historic site. It was built as a fort by the Spanish but it is also the site where the Philippine national hero José Rizal was kept before he was executed. In addition to this it was also used as a prison by the Japanese during world war 2 and I went into one of the cells (or maybe it is best to call it a dungeon) and it was dark and wet.

But the best part of the tour was talking to our guide Christine and to be able to hear her tell about the history and to be able to ask questions as we went along. The tour lasted for about 3 hours and I was soaking wet after the tour – not because it was a strenuous bike ride but because it is hot and humid. So remember to bring a long a small backpack with water and sunscreen (you get a bottle of water for free). If you are new to Manila and the Philippines I can recommend this tour – it was easy and fun. And we also seem to draw some attention when we were biking around on our bamboo bikes.

First, the price was very expensive, a 2 hour tour for one person costs P1,200.Despite charging such an amount, Bambike DID NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS. As a result after the tour there was a long line of people at the ATM right outside. Second, the bikes were very badly maintained. Some bikes have broken brakes, others have seats that are falling apart. Third, Bamboo bicycles are just plain bad. They are not "more eco-friendly". A regular metal bike is just as eco friendly, since most are now made with 100% recyclable aluminum or metals. A Bamboo bike is less stable, in contrast to a regular bike, bamboo bikes do not absorb vibrations well, so its a very uncomfortable ride, this is exacerbated by the bad roads of intramuros. Fourth, the tour guide we had (I wont mention the name) was just plain WRONG a number of times. When I called him out on his mistakes, he would simply make excuses saying "I must know it better since I went to a better school". On every tour I expect the tour guides to be EXPERTS on their subjects. My guide on this tour was not only wrong, but masqueraded as an expert. Fifth, he presented his own opinions and political views as historical facts. I had to go up to each and every person on the tour to explain to them that the tour guide was already making mistakes, and mixing up fact and opinion. Those that rated this tour highly, I think are foreigners that wouldn't know that they are being fooled.
Take it from a local, this tour is misleading and not worth it.

On behalf of Bambike Ecotours, I would like to say that we are sorry you did not enjoy your time with us. I appreciate your feedback and would like to comment on the matters that you brought up. 1. The price for the Intramuros Experience is PHP 1,200. The tour takes between 2.5 - 3 hours and includes the bike rental, tour guide, Fort Santiago/Rizal Shrine entrance fee, and a bottle of water. Our price is competitive with most all of the tour operators in the area. At the moment, as a relatively new tour operator, we can accept credit card payments only via PayPal. Cash, bank transfer and bank deposit are also welcome. The application for the card swiper is being processed and should be operational shortly. 2. The Bambike fleet is being used constantly and we are in the process of upgrading and replacing older models. We are committed to do our best to ensure that the bikes on the streets are safe. As a matter of fact, new saddles and brake pads were purchased yesterday and installed today. And we now have a full time bike mechanic on the team. 3. All bicycles are indeed eco-friendly and great! Bamboo is arguably the greenest building material on the planet though. Over a Bambike's lifetime it can be considered a carbon-neutral if not a carbon-negative product. Additionally, we are planting more bamboo than we harvest which results in a net benefit for the planet. Other materials such as metals are mined from the Earth and have high embodied energies. And most bicycles are manufactured in Chinese factories and imported. Our bicycles are handmade in a sustainable livelihood, rural community project here in the Philippines and are made with local raw materials. Bamboo is actually an excellent shock absorber as its fibers and pulp matrix work together to significantly dampen the vibrations also referred to as 'road buzz.' The cobblestone streets in Intramuros extend out in just about a two block radius and, in my opinion, make for a charming historic district. The rest of the 46 hectare area is paved and bicycle lanes are being developed in certain areas within and around the walls as well. 4&5. My apologies if one of our guides was rude. I will personally investigate the matter and make sure that proper manners are always observed. With regards to content accuracy, the tour is intended to be an 'experience' and not necessarily a history class guided by experts. We do present anecdotal information and explore some of the less talked about stories from our complex history. I would be happy to discuss the conflicting information that you mention to see how our stories compare. Lastly, the last time we checked our guest demographics, about 54% of the people taking our tours are Filipino. Our team is always looking to improve, both in content delivery and historical accuracy. We welcome comments and will do our best to provide our guests with the best Intramuros Experience possible. Mabuhay Pilipinas!

We thought it was a great and unique idea to take a tour of Intramuros on a bamboo bicycle. We were first shown an informative short video on how the bikes are built. The bikes themselves are surprisingly easy and fun to peddle. Now for the tour. It was a little disappointing. We were expecting much more information and explanation from our guide. Compared to a kalesa tour I took years ago this tour had too little "depth" for our liking.

We had a great time moving around Intramuros in a bike. The pace was easy, it would have been harder had we been walking. At the same time, it would have been less exciting if we were in a tour van. So I guess biking is the best way to really grasp the heritage of the old Manila. We were able to check areas that would have been inaccessible if we're walking or riding a car. There was this long stretch of bunkers? under the wall that I saw for the first time. It's also cool to be riding bamboo bikes. Expect curious eyes to be looking at you. Bring wide-rim hats though when it's sunny if you're not comfortable under the tropical sun, and some crackers in case you get hungry along the way (bottled water is provided).

The Bambike is very light and easy to ride. Bryan, our guide, gave us a tour of Intramuros with insights from one who loves his city. I saw how Manila had been and how she was changed because of the wars fought over her. The places to bike are full of history. We biked with Bryan at the lead and Christine behind us. She watched our backs. Thanks! I am definitely bilking again with Bambike for a longer route around Intramuros.
For the months of June and July:
Plan your trip in the morning before the afternoon showers.
August to February are cooler months while March and April are sure hot and sunny days :)

This was booked from the UK and is incredibly easy to find being next to the main church and museum. Our young guide Rey was a charming young man and a credit to his company and country. You start with a short video about the company and how in effect you are helping give something back to the local community. This is not a long bike ride, the key tourist spots are all located pretty close to each other. You do have to cross a couple of main streets but this is handled well and the traffic seems to understand about tourists on bikes! Rey was knowledgeable about the sites and wanted you to ask him questions. His English was very good. We were also not hassled by street sellers. The tour lasts 2.5 hours, costs 1200 pesos, bottled water is provided. This is how concerned they are. One lady had a slight accident and grazed her arm, at the next stopping point someone from the company arrived with a first aid box to administer some antiseptic cream and a plaster. Well done to Bambike!

My girlfriend and I did the Bambike Tour during our stay in Manila. We have researched things to do in Manila as we don't wanna just go to Malls and shops during our stay. And boy that was a fun tour, very tiring as its not easy cycling under the heat and humidity in the Philippines. Anyhow the best part of this tour was first their bikes. How amazing is that to see a bike made of bamboo (JUST COOL!!!!). The tour consists of cycling within and on the walls of Intramuros, visit some historical churches and ofcourse with a knowledgeable guide who also works for Bambike.

The best part also about the Bambike is that it is made in the Philippines and some of the money they make goes to a charity called 'Gawad Kalinga' and knowing that the money you pay for this tour does not just go to the pockets of their bosses.

Would I do this tour again, heck yea I would. Totally recommended it too, don't be put-off by the slams and street children or homeless people you'll see during your tour. Wherever you go in Manila, you will see these things. It's a fun tour that you can do with your partner, family and friends and yes P1200 per person maybe a lot of money but sometimes the memory you make with them is worth more than that. So please do visit them.

My wife and I spent a few days in Manila and this ecotour was certainly a highlight.

In addition to the tour of Intramuros being informative with many stops along the way to explore points of interests and take pictures, the heart of this company is designed to empower and improve the way of life for the Filipinos.

The manufacturing of the durable, sustainable, and stylish bamboo bicycles is located in a village not far from Manila, employing locals. The tour guides are knowledgeable, helpful, and funny and really care about the stories that accompany each of the tour's destinations.

We actually wrote about our experience on this tour in detail at uncontainedlife (dot) com/bambikes-eco-tour-of-intramuros/ ) but, we wanted to mention on Trip Advisor the people who are involved with this company because they showed kindness, care, and attention to detail with every revolution of the pedal.

Side note: I got to ride the big bike with three inch wide tires and chopper-esque handlebars. Smooth ride!
