There has been a church here since the 17th century but the original took a direct hit by a bomb in World War Two and was reduced to rubble. It was rebuilt in the 1950s in Spanish Baroque stye and they did an admirable job. It certainly does not look out of place in this historic neighbourhood, home to fountains, Neo-Classical bank buildings and Chinese gold shops. Sitting at the centre of a bustling plaza, it is the best landmark by which to negotiate your way around the Santa Cruz-Quaipo area.

Philippine churches are named in dedication to the Blessed Mother, Mary. The church of Sta. Cruz Manila is named Our Lady of the Pillar. It is a very active parish and is one of the unique churches: unlike other churches which has the statue of Our Lady--the Sta. Cruz Church has a mosaic altar wall depicting The Sacrificial Lamb above the tabernacle. During Holy Week, it is included in Visiting Churches from the University Belt, to Quiapo, then onwards to Binondo and Divisoria. From Sta. Cruz, one can go down the old Escolta street that boasts of building built from the turn of the century to the 1930s.

This church is situated across China Town. Easy access using LRT 1 from Carriedo Station. It's clean and you will not find any vendors outside the church, however the only thing that you can see outside are the sampaguita ( flower ) vendors.

Around the corner from the Carriedo LRT station, the Santa Cruz Church was quite magnificent. The building is a faded white, with a massive domed tower dominating the façade. The hectic streets outside are forgotten once you walk inside this big, peaceful building. The comfortable interior had decoration aplenty, with colourful stain-glass windows setting a nice scene. A magnificent church and an interesting place to visit.

one of my favorite churches in manila. amidst the horrible traffic around it, you can still find peace and quiet when your inside it. i love the lamb of God right infront of its altar. it is just amazing to look at.

When I got invited to tour Ermita, we were lead to Santa Cruz Church and had a moment there to pray. I love its high ceiling and chandeliers.

I always drop by everyday in this church after work when I was assigned in Sta. Cruz, Manila. Every night before heading home, I always drop by to have my daily Eucharistic Adoration. The Blessed Sacrament is usually exposed in the church's altar for everyone to see and to adore. Everyday, a benediction is always performed in the church. Indeed a very holy ambience in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar.
