- Aussie_BinturongQueensland, Australia369 contributionsSwimming capybarasDespite the heat I enjoyed my time here. Highlights were the zebras who looked like they were left in the oven too long, the lion sleeping with one paw up in the air and the capybaras swimming. While I enjoyed my visit, I am concerned that some of the larger animals didn’t have enough space in their enclosures, that’s the only reason I deducted a star. The staff were friendly and professional at all times. I would recommend buying tickets online. When I reached the entrance they didn’t appear to have card facilities so I offered cash but then they thought they didn’t have change for a 1000 peso note. So we were trying to get my phone onto the Zoo’s free wifi to book online but my phone didn’t seem to be connecting. I mentioned again that I had cash and then another staff member said she could get some change so we sorted it out that way. Despite this back-and-forth the staff were genuinely trying hard to help which was appreciated.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 12, 2024
- MARIA LINA J3 contributionsGood to see progressGlad to see the ticket machines, but manual work at the entrance was still necessary. I wonder why? The long line should be reduced especially on hot days. The renovation/modernization is impressive. We wish that the lion and the tiger had a larger space to roam though. My mother and I missed the elephant and the giraffe, so we hope that there's a plan to acquire these. I personally like the reptile museum as there's an AC for visitors' comfort. I also enjoyed watching the free-flying birds at the lake. Could someone identify them, please? The highlight of our visit was Diana's Corner although there was only a couple of live butterflies then. Some butterflies lay dead in the butterfly room where the chrysalises were. They could've been taken to the garden once they got out. Overall, it was nice to see some progress.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 25, 2024
- magviajemasLos Angeles, California533 contributionsNice family visitWe found paid parking easily after arriving before lunch two days before Christmas. Most people were still at work. There was a clean all gender restroom (unmarked) by the parking lot. An attendant kept track which gender was inside before letting another person. Bring your own toilet paper/ tissue. To get admission tickets was time consuming. Since we’re not from Manila, we paid P300 each. Bring IDs for senior or student discounts and to prove residency. Names and ages of everyone in your group had to be listed (why?) and paying cash was faster, unless you want more forms. It was somewhat easy to manage to walk around while pushing a person on a wheelchair. It got challenging on ramps that went up and down. The place was clean. The restroom inside was clean. I’ve never seen animals placed in the same area such as their Aviary. I’m glad that they are all getting along well. I wished the crocodile had more clean water. Other than that, it was a nice visit.Visited December 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 5, 2025
- NYANNMiyazaki, Japan1,090 contributionsNot particularly Filipino. There are few animal species. There is not much to see. The Butterfly Garden is also open to visitors at no extra charge, but you could only see one species of live butterfly. I enter my age when I enter, and it seems that if you are over 60, you will get a senior discount.Visited January 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten January 25, 2025

I went there and a sign saying closed since June for renovations so must of been open before June. It had been closed for many years as very run down with not many animals but if closed in June must of opened up again before June!
It first opened in 1959 It closed on January 23 2019 as it was found to be dumping sewerage into an estuary that empties into the bay. It reopened on December 30 2021. It must of remained open to June 2022 and then closed for more renovations

I visited the Zoo and unfortunately these animals seems not to be treated properly. There were 3 snake handlers just picking up the snakes, taking photos of them with their iPhones, laughing not taking things seriously, above all with no safety attire, wearing thongs. The cages for some of these animals are too small and does not give them enough room to wander around and most of these animals seems very hungry and for most of the time I was there, I did not see any keepers. Most of the animals were very tired and motionless such as the tigers, crocs, lion and even the monkeys and one lonesome elephant.
In conclusion, the government should take action by closing this attraction for a while, have a good renovation and feed these animals to the minimum international standard.

The Manila Zoo has to abolish this insane registration requirement. My group of five people went to the zoo today(8 jan 23), we were told we had to register online before we would be allowed to enter. There were more people ouside the zoo than inside because of problems with the registration. We tried to get help but the staff were rude and not very helpful. After wasting almost an hour trying and failing to register and faced with a huge queue for assistance, we did what many others did, we walked away. There was such a disregard for the patrons that i will never return.

This used to be a smelly place with animals living in squalid conditions, but now the place got a total revamp with the following improvements:
1. Clean and nicely designed place
2. Wide and tidy animal enclosures
3. Healthy and happy looking animals
4. Polite and accomodating personnel
5. Online ticketing system (with a minimal convenience fee) in which the QR code provided can be scanned directly at the entry turnstiles.
Notes:
1. Parking space is quite limited so it might be better to just get a cab to the place
2. Some enclosures are still empty but there are still plenty to see at the time of our visit
3. Food and bottled drinks are not allowed in the zoo. You may leave them with the security personnel prior to entry.

It's been years since I last visited this zoo, to this day so much had improved though as they say there's always room for (more) improvement.
The zoo is more organized, more family friendly and it's clean as well.
Though it's noticeable that some animals are missing/ not present compare to what they advertise in zoo pics. Among those animals are giraffe, hyena, hippopotamus, bleeding-heart dove, monkey (there's only one specie present in the zoo while they're advertising more than it) to name few. But of course, for sure there's some fairly explanations about the absence of the said animals.
It's also noticeable how little the presence of butterflies in 'the butterfly garden'. There are more preserved butterflies compare to the living/ flying butterflies around the garden.
Aside from this, I would say the zoo in totality is in good shape but always there's room for improvement.
Advise to those who will come visit this place, book your tickets online. You can't bring bottled water inside unless it's in your personal tumbler. There's also food stalls inside the zoo.

This zoo kept captivated an elephant, named Mali. She died. She was declared as the saddest elephant of the world. Despite of all the requests made, the zoo authority never released Mali to an animal sanctuary.

I had a chance to visit the new Manila Zoo today and while renovations are still ongoing and very few animals can be seen, judging from the structures I saw, everything looks really good and the whole place is very promising. Entrance is free for the month of January. You just have to register online. Starting February, the place will be closed again until all the constructions are over and all the animals will put out again on public display. So far, so good! :D

I am upset to learn of the suffering of Mali, the Manila Zoo's lonely elephant. I have learned through international news reports that Mali has been held in the same barren, cement enclosure for almost 40 years. She has been denied the company of other elephants, something that is essential to her emotional and mental well-being.
The zoo clearly lacks the resources and knowledge needed to care for an animal like Mali. She needs to be transferred to a sanctuary, where she can finally enjoy the life she deserves in the company of other elephants?
People around the world are paying attention to Mali's ongoing plight and are appalled at the zoo's refusal to help her.
This zoo needs to be re-educated in looking after animals in a captivity, as they're obviously not! It was a distressing visit and our hearts went out to the animals that were obviously not being properly cared for!
