About
Central Market began life as a wet market in 1888, built by Yap Ah Loy, the city’s Chinese Kapitan. It served as a prominent landmark in colonial and modern-day Kuala Lumpur. When the wet market was relocated in the 1980s, the Malaysian Heritage Society successfully petitioned against the demolition of the building. Now, Central Market Kuala Lumpur is an iconic attraction and a delightful destination for tourists, shoppers and art lovers.

Treasure Trove
Jun 2020
Central Market is a treasure trove of things to see and eat. Whether it's on the inside or outside it is just a great place to visit. If you want to wander for a couple of hours or so then this is the place to go. We have been to KL three years on the trot, 2018,19,20.
We have enjoyed our vacations there, hence returning for three years. The market has always been our go-to place, you need to try it. We have bought lots of various souvenirs and would recommend Premium Crafts on the first floor, see Taryn Lau. She is pleasant and helpful and will always give you a deal. The food available is delicious.
Give the Market a try you won't be disappointed

Good place to buy malaysian souvenirs
Jan 2021 • Family
Central Market has always been a nice place to buy malaysian souvenirs since I was a little girl. The environment is similar to 25 years ago except shops look more organised and colourful. Things sell here include souvenir bag and t-shirt, songket purse, pendant, painting, sweets and crackers. There are food court where you can hv lunch. Unique old timer toilet door. For international and local tourist.. this is a must place to come.

Art-centric
Nov 2020 • Couples
Central Market is situated at the heart of Kuala Lumpur; easily accessible by private and public transportations. There are buses and taxis plying through, and there's also a Mass Rapid Transit terminal in the area.

A place that's art-centric, selling arts and crafts for locals and tourists alike. From paintings to keychains, from hand-crafted figurines to traditional clothings.

Eateries are available on the second floor, but the price is a bit expensive.

Fully-airconditioned and clean, this is a nice respite from the hot and humid weather outside.

Prices are 'fixed', but you may technically haggle a bit. Feign your interest by leaving the shop, and be ready to have the sellers pulling you over and whispering 'better price'. But given that this is a tourist area, the price would still be on a higher side. All in all, a very convenient place to purchase souvenirs for you to bring back home.

Tourist Souvenirs
Feb 2020
Mostly selling souvenirs for tourists. The locals would rarely frequent this location.

As tourists, you might find this place interesting to pick up something for your loved ones.

Do beware of pick pockets.

Great for Souvenirs
Aug 2019 • Friends
Spent a couple of hours here shopping for gifts. There are lots and lots of stalls - with the vendors not being that pushy. There is also a good selection of food and drinks outside. It’s worth a visit whilst in Kuala Lumpur.

Mostly crappy knock-offs

Very junky stuff for the most part. Better stuff inside the old wet market. More local crafts and quality stuff there. Central Market is just junk. The food is good there though!

Interesting Place
Jan 2020
This is an interesting place full of all kinds of native handicrafts and merchandise. The vendors are friendly and will haggle with you to get a better price for their goods. A good way to spend a couple of hours if you have never been. You can also put your feet in a fish tank to have them nibble on you if interested. Also restaurants.

Must visit for all Tourists
Jan 2020
This market is locally known as Pasar Seni. This is basically an handicrafts market which has cluster of shops which are selling local handicrafts, art work and souvenirs. Not many people know that this market is declared a Heritage Site due to its old styling. One would need at least 3 to 4 hours to visit all the shops in the complex which includes building as well as the shops outside the complex. Various food options also available outside or within the complex in food court at second floor. Though most of the shops serving non vegetarian food. Enjoy fresh fruit juice which is served in a no. of shops within the complex as well as outside the complex. Overall a must visit if you are in Kuala Lumpur even for a day.
