The temple grounds and the temple itself are very nice, and the surroundings are great too. Be sure to go inside and go into the tunnel, it’s kind of a weird but fun experience. The road towards the temple has lots of nice shops.

Beautiful! One of the best parts of Japan. Really enjoyed staying near the temple at DOT dormitory so that I could return to this part of town each day.

Zenkoji Temple is a must, a lovely 20mins stroll (approx) up the cobbled stone street to it with numerous cafes, souvenir shops etc. on the way to browse at. Feels like a boutique / speciality shop area without the crowds in mid June. The grounds...More

The temple was great and when we went it wasn’t so crowded so that was encouraging. The shopping street in front wasn’t too crowded so again, encouraging and try the chestnut ice cream, it’s refreshing and light!

Walk up to the main temple. The street that you need to walk up is interesting with souvenir shops. The temple is large and quite beautiful. The grounds are peaceful. Inside the temple you can follow the path to enlightenment (in pitch black).

Yes, on the way to the main temple building, there are several spots selling various kinds of Goshuin. And they sell Goshuin stamp book as well to collect them.
