The 20-25 minute climb up to Monkey Park is arduous for sure, but you are rewarded with breathtaking views of Kyoto on a clear day, AND you get to interact with numerous snow monkeys. There are some rules to protect yourself and the monkeys, e.g,...More

Instead of seeing every possible shrine, take a trip and feed the monkeys. It’s very pleasant walk up to the hill where the monkeys live. Not expensive - 550jpy. If you choose proper hour, you can but some food and feed the monkeys yourself.

I highly recommend this. It is about a 20 minute walk up a hill to get there but once up there the monkeys are everywhere and there is a good view of the city. There are lots of monkeys that just wonder around and will...More

I love watching monkeys and was excited to learn there was a place to watch them in the wild. The hike up was quick and once you get to the top.... MONKEYS. You can go into a building and feed them through the wire. They...More

Great views of the city from the mountain top. The monkeys are fantastic! The hike is a tough one, but worth it!

If you’re in the Saga Arashiyama area, this is a fun diversion, especially if you have younger kids. The hike up was about 160 metres in elevation and took us a little under 20 minutes. It was coolish and cloudy so we didn’t break a...More

It was great walking up the small hill and see monkeys all around! The only problem is that I saw some stupid tourists shouting at a monkeys getting it really upset!

Being wary of zoos and of every venue with animals on show, we were dubious about this monkey park, but it utterly exceeded our expectations. It was an outright touching experience. Humans have to stay within the delimited path, while monkeys are free to roam,...More

What a wonderful experience to see loads of monkeys enjoying the outside, roaming freely - swimming, snacking, playing. Great fun

Definitely one of the highlights of Arashiyama. A fairly tough walk up the mountain, but plenty of places to stop and rest along the way. When you get to the top, the monkeys are running freely and actually get very close to you. You can...More

Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best

houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the
riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature
lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The

They are all around, no fencing except when you feed them since they can get aggressive. Otherwise they are all around, it’s really neat. Be prepared for a short hike up to the top.

Apparently it's about 160m. It was pretty steep, but they have a few seats dotted along the path to rest at. It took my daughter (15) and I slightly longer, closer to 30 minutes to walk up there, but we did just take it easy... More

Typically they keep their distance. The also know that when you're inside the feeding hut (CAGE), they can get close and accept treats. However, when the females have babies and you get to close they can become aggressive... More
