It’s a beautiful, quiet garden. There were only two other people when I was there. It’s not very big, but definitely worth a visit.

Small garden with passable landscaping. You pay 500 yen a person, but they still don't let you visit the tea house so you can enjoy the fish pond.

The smallest of the three temples/gardens near the Kyoto station was a delight, and I'm not a gardens man. The Japanese sense of style definitely on show here. To my mind London's Kew Gardens & Parisian equivalents pale in comparison. Definitely worth the 500 Yen...More

Busy but not overly crowded during the Sakura season. Tranquil and pleasant with very nice cherry blossoms. Great place to have a picnic and a nice little roundaround for the kids.

Because of its large size, it never feels overly crowded, despite its premium and central local in Kyoto. Shosei-en is listed in the new book "HIdden Gardens of Japan" and let's all hope it stays hidden though it is easy to find and in plain...More

Nice quiet garden with beautiful pond to view autumn leaves. Beautiful bridge over a pond to take photos. Away from crowd during peak autumn season to slowly enjoy the view and take photos. A small price to pay, which is use to maintain the garden,...More

A short walk from the higashi temple which is next to the kyoto tower. This is such a gem and such a scenic walk around the gardens and buildings and lakes. Absolutely love it....

We visited this garden ten years ago and were impressed with its beauty and tranquility. However this time was rather disappointing as parts were closed and ponds empty and one bridge closed and being renovated. The gardens did not appear to be well kept and...More
