The area
Address
Neighborhood: Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Great location across from Kyoto Station in basement of Kyoto Tower; open from 0700 to 2130, with price including small towel under¥1000, and cheaper with JAF Membership. Very friendly staff who appear multilingual; venue is not large but bath is very warm. Worth a visit, particularly after a long trip. Soap and shampoo provided, razor, tooth brush and large towel extra.

It is strange that a a landmark hotel has such a basic bath arrangement. The bath itself is large and hot. Terrific. The layout is also pleasing but the lack of additional baths is a real letdown. The biggest problem is that you soon overheat and there is no cold plungepool to cool down. The lack of a sauna is also disappointing. Change facilities are fine and recently rennovated. If you are staying at the hotel or the annex you can get a discount and it is still much more preferable than using your cramped shower unut in your room.

We visited this Onsen today after a long day sightseeing. The place is small with only 1 pool that could max take 20 bathers at a squeeze.

For $890 yen we did. it consider it value for money and only stayed for approx 15 mins.

Very underwhelming, we have certainly experienced far better at the foot of Mount Takeo.

Would not recommend.

We came to this onsen to clean up before boarding an overnight bus. It was very conveniently located - near kyoto station. It's in the basement of Kyoto Tower, which you can access via the elevator.
You buy an entry ticket from the machine outside, including add ons for bath towels etc. You can go to their website to print out a discount coupon - remember to buy the discounted ticket from the machine! Just hand the ticket at the counter, and they'll hand you the relevant towels etc.
As usual, you can keep your shoes in the lockers outside, and your other belongings in the lockers inside. The bath itself is pretty clean, but smelled strongly of chlorine.
All bath products are provided, from facial wash to shampoo and body wash. Hairdryers are provided, as well as body lotion.
Beware, it can get pretty crowded as night as many locals come in. I had to wait a while to get to my locker after my bath as there were lots of people accessing theirs and blocking me - not pleasant standing there undressed and dripping.
Overall, if you need a place to clean up before boarding a late night train or bus, it's a pretty good option.

This place is located across the street from Kyoto Station so you can relax after or before traveling.
You pay at the entrance using a vending machine. I went early in the morning and there was a line. It took some extra seconds to figure out where to click.
As I said, I visited early in the morning so you had to queue to get a locker. The place was packed but it kind of enhanced the experience of being in a Japanese bathhouse full of locals.
The staff does not speak English but you can survive...as everywhere in Japan they have a laminated paper with what you need to know. As in any other onsen/sento no tattoos are allowed.

There is better out there for sure but it is still a genuine Onsen/ public bath experience (I am unsure if there are specific criteria for each) and seems mainly frequented by locals. There are no electric or jet stream baths here as in other similar establishments we have tried so it is average to be fair.

Nice to relax after a long day of sightseeing. Conveniently located next to Kyoto Station, it was just perfect to have a quick and refreshing brake before carrying on with my travel.

After a long day at the flea market in Kyoto this was a welcome respite! It was easy to find. There is a machine right outside the entry where you purchase your tickets. It was 750 yen per person, plus 100 yen extra for a large towel. There was soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and even body oil. What a great find and way to relax. Checked in at 6:15 and checked out at 7:15. There are two sets of lockers. The first is where you put your shoes and the second is where you put the rest of your belongs. They give you the key on a band you can wear around your wrist or put on a water bottle. Make sure you bring water as it is hot.

Located in basement 3F of Kyoto Tower. This onsen or hot spring is very convenient. Opens from 7 am to 10 pm. There is a discount for hotel guest if you happen to stay at the Kyoto Tower Hotel.
I purchased my ticket from the machine right outside the onsen. 750 yen for weekday and 890 yen for weekends/ holiday. Then I picked up a small towel from the front desk and stored my shoes in the locker. Big towels were available for rent (100 yen).Men and women have separated onsen/hot spring. Processing into the change area, I stored my clothes in a bigger locker. Bear in mind everyone needs to strip to naked skin. No swimsuits allowed. Before submerging myself into the hot bath, I took a shower. Shampoo, rinse and body wash were readily available.
Once I rinsed off everything I went into the onsen. I would sit in the bath and then go rinse with cold water. No towels allowed inside the hot bath. I repeated the process for a good half hour. Then I showered off again and went back to the change area. Hair dryer, comb and lotion were available. It was great for tired feet and back muscles. Convenient location and long operating hours are big pluses. Kyoto tower is showing signs of age although the onsen was opened recently. Adjust your expectation accordingly.

This was my first visit to a Japanese baths so I was a bit nervous that I would cause offence. I went in and remove my shoes and socks and was given a little towel and then went into the single sex changing rooms . Then I undressed and entered the baths and and a very nice and thorough shower. The bath itself was so lovely and warm and most relaxing. Recommended!
