Otagi nenbutsuji is a bit out of the way requiring either a cab or long walk - but the walk is pleasant and cool being in the mountains. The temple itself is very charming with many little Buddha’s carved. The monk that works there is...More

Otagi Nenbutsuji is a small temple and is famous for the many small moss covered stone statues there. Our guide said it was a burial ground and the statues were there to pacify the dead. There is also an interesting triple bell there that you...More

We really enjoyed our visit to this temple, we went there on a Sunday where we where not enjoying other sites because of the huge crowds of people...this place was not crowded at all. As we learned there, it is a very poor temple that...More

This temple is worth the long walk through Arashiyama. We were going to give this one a miss but very glad we didn't.

This is a charming temple in the NW of Kyoto. It is at the top of a steep hill so we took a cab right to the entrance. There are stairs and ramps within the temple but I have knee issues and had no trouble...More

After the Arashiyama bamboo grove, we had time to spare before dinner. We had heard about this unusual temple with over a thousand stone faces with different expressions. We had to take a taxi from the main road of the bamboo grove though. It was...More

Had read reviews of this site and decided to make it a must visit. Bus is available outside of bamboo forest which drops you outside of site. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet with no crowds and beautiful settings. I would recommend this as...More

As predicted, when we visited Arashiyama, the usual spots are packed with Tourist and we barely can take picture or actually just stay to enjoy the view. We already set a backup plan and decided to visit Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple. What is beyond our expectation...More

My second visit, and will return again. Love the atmosphere, and unique. Nice to get away from the city and into the forest to visit the temple, then walk back through Arashiyama area.

Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best
