We loved this place which provided a great overview of the history of Hokkaido's settlement and development. Be prepared to spend the entire day and dress warmly in the winter. The on site cafeteria offers good, cheap meals. Definitely try the imomochi. Yummy!

Relatively compact village of all sorts of buildings from all of hokkaido set up in one place. Easy to reach by (rental) car. But still at least 30-40 minutes from central sapporo. Interesting if you dive into the historic background of each building.
