Beautiful and historic, this was my favorite part of Guangzhou visit. We just strolled around the old streets and relaxed. The weather wasn't too hot either which added to the enjoyable experience. It's a nice free attraction if you like history, architecture or if you...More

My hubby and I visited Shamian on a Sunday. It reminded me of the Spaniard, French arquitectural buildings you find in Europe, some States in the US and in the Caribbean. Many of the establishments (restaurants and stores) were closed because it was Sunday. Strolled...More

We stopped by after hearing about this area of town from plenty of other folks. We took a cab over from our hotel- roughly 15 minutes - and walked around for about 2 hours. Even at 9 am in the summer, it’s hot! We went...More

Wonderful place! Very convenient with the guide maps around the island. Historical reviews and mix with the modern world. The trees impressed me greatly. Enjoyed every minute being there and walking long ways around the place.

This place was a surprise. Basically it is a man made island where westerners were forced to set up shop during the Qin Dynasty. Many old western building. Huge trees make the place cooler than most of the city. This is a good place to...More

I went there in the morning, not that hot though many shades around. It's like a quiet neighborhood that full of stories. Must visit when you are in Guang Dong.

After fighting folks at the huge wholesale markets, we greatly enjoyed our time on Shamian Island. It has been nicely remodeled and the bronze statues are awesome. People watching is fun here and there are several good restaurants. The White Swan hotel with its waterfall...More

Wedding photos, family gatherings, loads of shops... Plus a few restaurants. But whatever you do don't try to take pictures of anything official like military police training. Otherwise snap away at all the beauty.

It was one of my favorite places in GZ. Shamian Island was once a European colony in Guangzhou, where the European government (Poland, Britain, Netherlands) settled there. That explains why the buildings are of European style. However, the buildings are now occupied by the locals....More

Many shops near the White Swan Hotel on Shamian Island. Don't purchase at the shops inside the hotel, as the prices are outrageous.
