Different than the other ancient villages. this has larger streets and slightly more shops. Its in the middle of a city so less rural. Not bad overall.

We've been back to Shawan Ancient Town a number of times now and it's a nice afternoon out, particularly if you live in GZ and have friends or family over visiting. I'm not sure how much of the town is 'ancient' but it's atmospheric enough...More

Decided to visit Shawan and took the metro - have to admit it was quite the experience taking their metro system - took line 3 and got off at Shiqao - from there I was told that it was easier to take a motorcycle taxi...More

This is such a beautiful little Town. It captures the true "ancient" Panyu. The food is traditional and the beautiful stores are packed with great gifts for loved ones. There are multiple memorial halls you can visit (for extra fee about ¥30). The buildings are...More

We took the metro to Panyu and then a taxi to Shawan, and caught a bus back to the metro station. We enjoyed the visit and meandered through all the ancient alleyways and hidden corners. The traditional architecture was fascinating and somewhat different from that...More

I was pleasantly surprised with this place. There are many historical buildings and the area is easy to navigate. There are some tourists but even on Saturday it was relaxed and not too busy. I bought a 30RMB ticket for 3 sights but I don't...More

There must be hundreds of these 'ancient' towns dotted around China. ShaWan is better than most as there are places to visit other than streets of small shops selling identical tourist tat. We visited the Friday after the Mid-Autumn Festival. A national holiday so it...More

My GF and I visited Shawan last weekend. Luckily we only live live 10 minutes away so it was quite easy to find. If you are coming from downtown then it could be a challenge so I suggest taking a taxi from Shiqiao metro station...More

Shawan Ancient Town is not the typical over-run tourist attraction as it is a noticeable trip “out of town”. The local bus service to get there travels a rather circuitous route but it is well worth the time – and it is disgustingly cheap! Many...More
