This is a trip worth taking! We drove to the crater from Taif in the early morning - excellent roads with little traffic. The road ends at the edge of the crater and the view is spectacular. You can drive around the crater - probably...More
This feature has been created for Phreatic explsion due to very hot material coming form the earth and meet a phreatic zone and like when you cook and the pressure get accumulated into the pot, it was an extraordinary explosion that created this crater of...More
The walk down is steep, on a path that must have been very hard to build. Well done to the Saudi military for making the effort. You need to be fit and with good footwear to attempt this safely. Photographs don't show how large this...More
This is one of the must see places in Saudi Arabia. Its around 400km from Jeddah and 200km from Taif. Its a good place to do an adventure hiking. In the night you can prepare a BBQ.
Now they made proper guidelines and a wall...More
After driving all night from Riyadh, we arrived in time for a magnificent sunrise over the East rim of the crater. Within five minutes of arrival, I spied a Peridot laying in plain view only ten meters from the crater's edge and soon afterwards, saw...More
This is one place to visit if your in the area. Have been several times, but the trek to the bottom (well the climb back up really) is really a tester if you time it wrong in the heat of the day, but has to...More

During our visit, we're not able to do so since my friends were kind a hesitant to take an extra mile. The view from the top is awesome but based on the pics I have seen online, the view once you're inside the crater itself is AMAZING!

The entire trip is fine in a sedan until THE LAST MILE. It is off road and the cery loose rock and so-so road condition ( March) could cause under carriage damage ... We were a caravan of Land Rover and coasters. We drove carefully and along the off road visible 'path' to the LEFT of the crater as you approach from the main road that leads you to and officially ends . I don't think I would drive a subcompact or compact car off road there due to the rocky terrain. That weekend, I saw pick up trucks & suv's. Good luck!
