I regularly performed my obligatory prayers in this mosque, situated in Al-Khobar Housing where I stay during my visit to Saudi Arabia. Built in 2000 AD (1421 AH) the mosque is named after Mufti (a Muslim jurist expert in the religious law) Shaikh Mohammad bin Ibrahim, lived 1311-1389 AH. The Iskan (meaning Housing), built by Saudi government, is a complex of over 800 multi-storied buildings consisting of about 5,000 apartments. Most of the amenities such as grocery stores, laundries, pharmacies, clinics, parks, schools, ATM, Public transport, maintenance shops and cafes/restaurants in and around the complex are available. The mosques within this Complex serve thousands of worshippers daily, who keep close contact with each other, and also extend community services. This mosque can accommodate 800 worshippers at a time. During Ramadan (the month of fasting), about 500 mineral bottles are served daily to the devotees in addition to 2 water dispensers. Most the Saudi mosques have ‘back support’ for the comfort of worshippers. Translation of the Quran in different languages such as English, Urdu, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam and Indonesian are available for expatriates. Quran “holders” or drawers are placed all over the mosque. رحل Rahals (see photo) with adjustable height are available for those sitting on a chair or floor.
