My husband and I don't speak Russian so we were completely dependent on the English version audio guide. We learned so much and were very impressed that the museum showed a great deal of candor in presenting the Stalin purges and the gulags in an...More

This is a great museum if you are interested in the soviet era although has more to offer than that. There are two English audio guides and you do need a guide - although most displays are explained in English. We took the Soviet era...More

The museum complex looks nice and is quite modern from the inside. Overall, it was very interesting: we ended up spending 2:30 hours walking around and could have stayed much longer if we had gone through all the rooms thoroughly. They offer two types of...More

Some things about this museum were amazing, namely Lenin’s old office, but the rest of the museum was quite confusing and in my opinion trying to do too much. It has some great material and I would still recommend going but would not bother with...More

Under Putin, a new history of the country is being rewritten. This museum is a perfect example of this. Also, no discount for international students, just Russians? This is chauvinistic and the only museum with this policy in St. Petersburg.
