Many of the reviewers here are reviewing the wrong place. This TripAdvisor page is on the KGB Museum, which is a branch of the main Museum of Political History. It consists of two rooms. There's a huge amount of Russian text and no English labels...More

Not one of the more popular museums, small but none the less has some very interesting pieces about the security and police services in Russia, that then lead into the cold war era, how they started, who worked for them, what equipment they used and...More

Growing up in during the cold war left me with two sources on political history; Dr. Zhivago and Reds and neither do the incredible inspiring and heartbreaking history justice BUT this museum does. 4 hours here made up for my lack of Russian revolutionary history....More

As a 'global politics' junky of sorts, this was on my list. It's not as popular to many foreign travelers but for an extensive description from the revolution to Stalin to Khrushchev to Gorbachev through modern day, it was very well done.... many of the...More

I really enjoyed this the most (along with Ethnographic museum) of everything we saw in St. Petersburg. Interesting history of how Alex1 tried to free the serfs, his son tried and succeeded but paid the ultimate price. Then the Bolsheviks revisited the issue in 1917.

Tried to come in this museum, centrally located between the Winter Palace and St.Isaac, to the back of the admiralty building. Checked the website for opening times and special closures - due to the time of my visit being in Christmas holiday time-, made a...More

Feels like stepping into a soviet era museum. Nothing high-tech, only couple of signs in English. Mostly old telegrams on the walls with pictures of former KGB agents (?) After visiting a very interesting spy museum in Washington DC, a KGB museum in Tampere, Finland...More

If you are a political history buff, this is a must. You can easily spend over half a day exploring this great little museum. Download the izi travel app, and listen to the podcasts along the museum.

Only one room was open. Its a very small museum with almost no English. This should be far down the list of places to visit for an overseas visitor.
