YAROSLAVL MAIN SQUARE (Sovetskaya Ploshad) houses the church of Elijah the Prophet (R100 entrance) with amazing frescos. Don't miss the side chapel to the right of the main church. Also in the square is a large Soviet building, now an administrative centre, and a large...More

This church was filled with bright frescoes painted with lots of primary colors. It also had aqua green tilework on the lower walls. Some of the doorways had layered arches with columns built in. Beautiful icons and gilded carved altar pieces were abundant. Large candlesticks...More

The church was built from 1647 - 1650 by the two Skripin brothers who were wealthy fur traders. The frescoes and icons painting are fantastic, from floor to ceiling if possible get a local guide to take you through as they have so much information...More

Beautiful church. Amazing paintings of icons. Not heated in main part so icons well preserved. In heated part sadly icons not protected against people brushing against them and will be lost soon.

Located on the big Sovetskaya Square, and surrounded by several historical buildings, this Church displays its beaty. Inside all walls are completely covered with Icons, frescoes, and paintings. It requires a guide to understand the impressive meaning of this all.

Go inside to be transfixed by the beautiful frescoes. It's well worth having a guide to bring meaning to them all.

Though on a smaller scale than the Sistine Chapel, The Church Of Elijah the Prophet is covered in frescoes from floor to ceiling. Virtually everything else is gilded in gold, and best of all, the crowds are nowhere to be seen.
