Nikolskaya street is a gem of Moscow which, in its turn, is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. For sure, in these dull and desolate Christmas covid days in Europe and USA this bustling and defiantly careless megapolis is a bright spot on the Northern Hemisphere's map. We were there yesterday - me, my wife, our two children, our daughter-in-law and our three grandchildren, a girl and two boys. Nikolskaya was crowded. Packed cafes and restaurants, street musicians, masqueraded millennials - angels and devils, knights, robots, ruffians, even slightly drunken Putin's lookalike! - what a contrast to despondent Western cities! We walked there, then progressed to the Red Square, then to the Manezhnaya square, then to Alexandrovskiy gardens, to watch change of guard by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Hordes of people. Moscow, I love you! You're forever young, glittering, resilient, fortitudinous, flamboyant and charming. Outta sight!

One of the central and the oldest Moscow streets, which leads directly to the Red square. It’s been decorated like a fairy tale street, with thousands of lights suspended above your head, they cover the sky and create a unique view and experience when you walk along there, absolutely stunning!

One of the oldest streets in the center of Moscow. You can access it from the Red Square - just walk to the right side of Kazan Cathedral. It’s a strictly pedestrian street. Now it’s famous and popular also because of the lights that are hanging above the street. Gives it a magical feel both during the day and, of course, especially during the night. Very picturesque too!

This was the place to stay in St Petersburg. We were in a hotel just a short walk from Nikolskaya Street and it was the place to be. I beautiful street to walk along, plenty to see and a real feel for the centre of this magical city. There is the best cafe on this street in a sumptuous food hall. When I remember the name I'll write a review about the cafe too :)

At this very street the first book printed in Moscow was made. It was the place to buy books now only two places offer books for sale, one of them handles only old editions. There are several souvenir shops, restaurants and shops but the highlights are the strings of lights hanging creating a magical Winter atmosphere.
