Once a real aqueduct
May 2018 • Solo
Now it is an ordinary pedestrian bridge with two dozen arches, with a covered gallery and handrails on the sides, located on the territory of a small park. As such, it has existed for almost a decade and a half. I was very surprised to learn that it is considered to be a part of Sokolniki park, from which it is separated by railway tracks. And once it was a real aqueduct, built using the ancient Roman experience of the construction of such structures, just not of stone, as usual, but of white limestone, why it gives the impression of a lighter design than its ancient Roman counterparts. It was part of the water supply system that supplied Moscow with water from Mytishchi, and named after the village that existed here, whose name bears also the passage going from Preobrazhenskaya square to Prospekt Mira.
