This is one church Ilonggos should really be proud of. It was declared in 1990 by the NHCP as a historical landmark and in 2013 by the National Museum as a national cultural treasure, and it is not hard to understand why. It was constructed in the mid-19th century and had witnessed significant historical events at the end of the same century and in the early 20th century. Aside from the church, there's a beautiful and recently restored convent adjacent to it. Be sure to read the historical markers posted at the entrance to the cloister when you visit the place so as to appreciate the place more. This place is only about 20mins by car from the city proper and is definitely worth-visiting not only for the beauty of its architecture, but also for its rich history.

Sta Barbara Church is the place where you can find the historical declaration of Philippine Independence mural painting inscribed at the back of the church. The church was declared as a national treasure because of its historical value and importance. It was built in the 18th century by the Augustinian friars. The structure is said to be neoclassical because of its design and the materials where is built from.

The church is truly impressive. The structure and the antiquity makes me admired, hiw the church is being built with grandiosity.

This is the place you have to go if you want to know why the third star in the Philippine flag originally represents Panay and not the Visayas. Santa Barbara church was a witness of the first ever raising of the Philippine flag outside Luzon. The church itself is a testament of the revolutionary past. A lot of precious religious artefacts can be seen there. Near it is the Santa Barbara plaza and museum.

A baroque renaissance architecture church was declare as National Landmark by National Heritage Institute. This was been a historic place were revolutionary government against Spain converted the place as their HQ and military hospital. The church structure is still well kept and recommended site to drop by.

The cathedrals of Europe are held in awe . The Santa Barbara Church is equal to any cathedral than can be seen in Europe. Definitely not the over opulent but very Filipino. If I recall correctly the church is over 250 years old, very impressive and very spiritual . It is just a short detour off the main route between the airport and downtown Iloilo. It is worth taking a short detour.

The Church of Santa Barbara and the convent annexed to it were a silent witness to the Filipino revolution against the Spaniards in Iloilo. It was in the plaza in front of it that the so-called "Cry of Santa Barbara" took place in 1898, leading to the first raising of the Philippine flag outside of the island of Luzon. Today one can visit both the plaza and the church (with its convent) right across it.

The Church of Santa Barbara was completed in the late 19th century. Sad as the history behind its construction may be ... a history of slavery that saw Filipino men 16 years old and above subject to forced labor by the Spaniards! ... it is an architectural marvel on its own, with Romanesque facade, with niches, stained glass windows and a wooden main door. While the original roof and ceiling of the church collapsed during the strong 1948 earthquake, the interior of the church has somewhat preserved its former solemnity, with its "retablo" and side altars, walls with windows, the floor plan, and so forth.

Aside from visiting the church, you must also visit the convent adjacent to it. Both structures have been recently restored, fortified and cleaned up. The convent is L-shaped and has orange-colored checkered patterned bricks on its walls. The arches, the columns, the balconies and the corridors outside, as well as the rooms upstairs are really worth a visit!

Both the church and the convent were declared as a National Historical Landmark in 1991 and Philippine National Treasure in 2015 because of their importance in the history of the Philippines.

I have been in this church several times for family affairs and visits. This is a UNESCO Heritage Church with history of over 100 years. It was newly restored and the bricks and stones were cleaned and exposed for everyone's appreciation. This has a courtyard at the back with intricate carvings - always worth a visit. The pew is long and the altar is big with a beautiful design. If I live within the area, I would want to get married in this church. There is ample lighting, which I really like. Most old churches are dark - this one is an exception. This one has the right balance of old design with a great design for ventilation and use of light. This is next to a convent and is truly a gem for those visiting Sta. Barbara.
