Iloilo City has a place which you can best describe as a place of many splendours, and that is CALLE REAL. Located in the heart of the city,it is teeming with action from sun-up to sundown, So many sights to see , from small businessman on the sidewalks to big business man sheltered in their air conditioned office, all has a role to play in this busiest section of the city. Fruits, slippers, shoes, shades, dresses and newsstands contribute to the many colours that brighten your stroll along Calle Real. People of all denominations (if I may be allowed to say so) will delight you in whatever chores they're doing. Yes, watching people in Calle real is great fun, try it. Then, during Dinagyang time Calle real has another ambience, it has the Vibrant and Festive atmosphere that drive you to the verge of euphoria. That I experienced last January 2016. That made me conclude, that Calle real is my place, to UNSTRESS.

The place has a lot of beautiful historical buildings. Sadly, it is hard to walk around the area due to traffic and a lot of vendors.

The brochures describe a street but actually refer to only two buildings of a bygone era that are still maintained. Worth a few pictures but of no real value to the visitors.

Just like old days, good place to shop for bargains. The antique structures of the buildings remind me of the streets of Havana, Cuba during my visit. Try the best and famous siopao in an old restaurant, you won't be dissappointed. But be careful ..........

Iloilo was once an important trading and gateway city but unfortunately in the 70s and 80s, much of it has fallen into disrepair and neglect. That was until a new breed of conservationists and heritage enthusiasts through the city government rolled up its sleeves and finally paid attention to the remnants of this former "queen city". Much of its art deco structures have now been slowly revived and now stands proud again. Hopefully the new generation of Ilonggos take this cue and move this endeavour forward for the future generations. Well done.

We visited during our city tour of Iloilo.

This street is now called JM Basa Street and was the old CBD and is the famous heritage street of Iloilo.

Royal Street as it was known stretches from Plazoleta Gay up to Plaza Libertad.

You will find many heritage buildings along this street dating back to the 1920's.

Well worth strolling this heritage street.

Calle Real is a historic street located in the old downtown district Iloilo City. It is contains several fine examples of historic neoclassical, beaux-arts, and art deco buildings. The street has been famous since the Spanish Era. Over time the core area has somewhat deteriorated, as is typical with he rise of shopping malls. Still, it retains great vitality, authentic and rich architecture, and a vibrant and safe shopping scene. As with some other historic areas of Iloilo, this one would greatly benefit from continuing preservation efforts, along with design efforts to make it a more welcoming pedestrian experience.

Calle Real is one of the heritage streets of Iloilo. The most famous landmarks here are the Villanueva & Javellana buildings which were restored sometime back in 2012 but don’t seem to have been maintained too well. I wouldn’t recommend visiting unless this area happens to be along your way to some other destination. It’s basically a crowded marketplace with a few heritage buildings overshadowed by utility wires. Personally, I didn’t mind the short walk around the area and also went upto the customs house overlooking the iloilo river/wharf which was quite pretty!

Just a dated street...faded buildings...busy...otherwise, I didn't even realize it was "THE Calle Real" until days later :/

Since this has been restored, you will enjoy the view of the building whenever you pass by JM Basa street. This has a similar structure in Macau.
