This is where I see myself feeling at home and beyond. This is the only church in Panay with a Chinese-Filipino heritage underscored by its Chinoy devotees and the Chinese architecture of its physical interior. It’s Patron is the Lady of China. For 50 years, it was home of the Ateneo de Iloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School, the only Jesuit, Catholic, Chinese-Filipino school in Western Visayas. Never miss to appreciate the church’s altar facade and special room for prayer and devotion.

The Santa Maria, Our Lady of China Parish in Iloilo City is the only Chinese Catholic Parish of Iloilo City. It started way back in 1953 when the Chinese Jesuits first arrived from mainland China. As the church grew, the Jesuits started accepting students for kindergarten until it grew to become what we now know as Ateneo de Iloilo - Santa Maria Catholic School. While the school has already relocated to its new site, the parish has remained.
As a Chinese Catholic, the parish has dedicated a shrine to the ancestors where you can pray for your dearly departed family and friends. It also prepared a Chapel for the Blessed Sacrament where you can just sit and have a quiet time in prayer.
The masses are mostly in English, but some responses are in Chinese pin yin.
Growing up in this church has become something that I would always look for, even in my adult life.
