full of people and garbage everywhere. Was really disappointed seeing so much bottles, fish and lechon bones on the beach. The natives are honestly good people but idk why the government isn’t preserving this island well.

I can say we are lucky enough to have the island with less tourist around. We have explored and appreciated the whole Island for at least a 20-minute walk. It also has a marine sanctuary at the back part. I really hope the local government would maintain and find ways to preserve the Island’s Beauty.

Very disappointing. LGU does not control visitors to the island resort such that there is an overwhelming number of tourists in the island beyond its capacity. Nothing has been done to accommodate tourists with no cottages, so they have to wait until there is a vacant cottage for them to be accommodated. Food is very expensive, it is advisable you bring your own food. Water is not as crystal clear and sand is not as white as Kalangaman island. Overrated and overused.

An island that can be circulated in less than 20 mins , feel free to stroll along the white powdery island with an interesting vegetation of the island. Apart from the affordable rate more of less than USD2 good for two way already. I love my stay there and probably back there soon!

The good side: The island is less than half hour by boat from the mainland. The boat provide safety equipment for in case of accident which is abiding safety requirements, I saw one boat all passengers were wearing the safety vest. Our boats staff were polite and friendly which was great, they helped my old age mother getting off the boat. Our pic up back to the mainland was supposed to be at around 5pm but because it wasn't a nice weather and was a bit cold on that day we decided to head back early, they accomodate our request and we got in the boat back to mainland without a hassle. The staff's service are world class.

The bad side: The island was pretty itself but it was very dirty. The water was not as clear and blue as you can see in youtube, pictures and videos you see in the internet are lies, I have seen it with my own eyes and I felt shame as it was advertised as world class, well hello? how can they label it world class when rubbish floating in the sea, plenty of flies too that never went away. We were given a cottage that was right next to the people making sugba their fish or making inihaw their fish and it was disgusting as the smells was horrible and th rubbish that they left behind at the barbecue area. Our cottage were sorrounded with rubbish, water bottle, chips celophanes etc. I strictly asked my famiy to clean the place first before we put our bags down. The cottage itself is an old kawayan bamboo wood which was already blackened and need to be cleaned. We were given a very little old table that was dirty too. I walked around the island and was shocked how dirty the island even more, there were rubbish everywhere and the stink of the sewage, If only I live there I would have picked those rubish up myself, there were rags, shoe, water bottle, etc, I felt ashamed to see sanitary pads just right at the foot path.

It is a shame that I have paid 104 pesos per person - this was included the boat and the entrance fee, and there was about 15 of us so that's about 1,500 pesos, they could hire a person who would pick up rubbishes, I know we brought our rubbish back to the mainland but some tourists are also filth, it just makes sense that the management should hire a person to clean around the island.

Canigao island is beautiful but was not big enough for many tourists, we went on a gloomy day so it expected to get too crowded when the weather is nice and clear. To me it is not a world class as they are claiming and will never go back there again. To me I have seen enough and that was it for me.

Calaguas island is a small beach resort in Leyte, 20-30mins boaride from the busy city. Across is the famous Kalanggaman island also. It is underated since the latter boost tourism as well but I lov eit here because it is more serene as few people are coming in (except summer of course).

The price of sea shells and sea foods are amazing. You get a tumbler of fresh seafoods at around $5-$8. There is no entrance fee as well but you have to pay for the cottages. Accessible as well because there are boats for public transfer from the main island. You just have to take the last trip at around 5pm because electricity shuts down at night. Blue water and white sand beach, where else? Perfect 👌🏽

I stayed on the island overnight with a group of 3 adults and 5 children. We brought our own tent and sleeping bags and rented chairs. It was a fun place for the adults and kids. I would give it a 5 but because it's overcrowded I only gave it a 4.

We visited the island and was planning to camp out for the weekend.

Accommodation
We did not bring our own tents instead we rented one in the island. If you are particular with tents I suggest you bring your own. They only have basic tents which was fine us. We did brought our sleeping bags for added comfort.

Food
We did bring our own food and also brought a camping stove so that we can cook our own meals. I believe there is no restaurant on the island. Please bring your own drinking water as well.

Restrooms
Basic restrooms are available.

Snorkeling
The area is great for snorkeling as they have a marine sanctuary nearby (this area is prohibited).

There were a lot of guests when we stayed there because it was during fiesta season. If you prefer to have a more quiet experience on the island just make sure that there are no events on the nearby island or fiestas. You can always pick a quiet spot (that’s what we did).

Don’t forget to clean as you go and do not leave your trash on the island.
