65% Music, 35% Halad Family

In a manner that is something like visiting ancestral homes in the Philippines, there is a strong focus on the museum founding family as well as the musical cultural contents. Frankly, since I was expecting a museum experience only, this took me aback. The main floor is dominated by Visayan musical artists, various instruments, and other things related to the development of music in this part of the country, and then some other sections are dedicated to the Halad family, genealogy, and the history of the building itself as related to political events.

Cebu Music History Keeper
Jul 2016
The newest museum of Cebu City houses and keeps the rich musical history of Cebu. It is the only museum in Cebu that is solely dedicated to music. Cebuanos have always been known as great singers and musicians. The Museum is being house in the Old Freeman Building and is located along Manalili Street, just beside Gaisano Main. The museum displays the gowns wore by Pilita Corales-Asia's Queen of Song and Raki Vega. It also shows the record collections of Gullas Family.

A Real Music Museum
Dec 2015 • Solo
The is a Music Museum in Manila but its more of a Concert/event venue than a Museum.

Here enshrined the wonderful history of Cebuano Music. With working phonograph where you can listen to the music from Long Playing Vinyl Record, and other music from mp3 players, they also keep memorabilias from the greatest in Cebuano Music.

Cebuano Heritage and Culture Kept Through Music...
Jan 2015 • Business
The JRG Halad Museum, founded by Dodong Gullas in 2010, explores and celebrates the enduring legacies of Cebuano cultural heritage as expressed through music.

The museum aims to be a repository of Cebuano and Visayan musical treasures, including composers, artists and other memorabilia as well as a destination for an experience of Cebuano music and performing arts, cultural heritage and exhibitions.

Hard to find blast from the past
The location on the map is incorrect and once you do find it, it looks closed or abandoned. But once you walk in, it was really surprising! The owner seemed to have invested a lot but he could have done more to advertise the museum from the outside. It was nice to see the collection of old Cebuano songs and Pilita Corales records and dresses. You can even listen to old songs with their headphones. The museum reminded me of those found abroad. This is definitely one for all the golden oldies. My mom really enjoyed it!
