this place of worship in calapan has the serenity and calmness one needs when communing with God. truly a quiet and conducive place for meditation, contemplation and prayer.

the architecture is impressive. more so if the ceiling has been painted.

parking, i learned, is a perennial problem so people with cars either go there very early or leave their vehicles at home and use public transport.

try spending time to visit. worth your while.

Historical church, and one of the famous landmarks in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. Center of spiritual activities in the City.

It was a first to reached Calapan, Mindoro with a friend who is a local of this province. The church may not have the grandeur of historical remnants, but the stained glass and Mural of the Altar was an awe-inspiring moment. I had a great time walking around Calapan and i feel safe while going to the Market or roaming around. People are nice but still if you want to go here, you have to be cautious as always.

The Sto. Nino Cathedral in Calapan City is located at the very heart of town. It is at the start of the main artery which is J.P. Rizal Street and from there the street is a straight line to the rest of the city areas. It has an elementary and high school adjacent to it and is located within the same compound. Everyday masses are held at 6:00 a.m.to start the day in worship and thanksgiving. On my last trip to Calapan City, I woke up at 4:00 a.m. and decided to take my normal morning walk. Billeted at the Calapan Bay Hotel, the church is about a 15 minute leisurely walk or a distance of approximately a kilometer. At that early morning, one will feel the cool morning breeze while one can see the nearby Calapan Bay on the right with the waves lapping at the shore. At least for the moment, one will feel alive and bereft of any worries or responsibilities of life. I arrived in time for the first mass at 6:00 a.m. and amazingly, that Friday, there were many churchgoers...young, old, retirees, teachers and students. A melting pot of the population of Calapan City. The ceremony was short only for 30 minutes but somehow gave my soul the quiet and solitude it needs to be attuned to the Divine. In the evening, I was glad I went to Mass. Our van, an adventure was bumped off from the Montenegro RORO since we arrived at 8:00 p.m. at the pier and was told the boat was full. No space for another one. We went to Starlite, another ferry and was told to wait until the next boat at 10:00 p.m. We then went back to the booking office of Montenegro to try our luck and book. Good thing we did since we were told that one truck didn't fit and our van can be accommodated. We were so happy to go home to Manila. I guess going to Mass and having our angels do the work really is effective.

I've been here many times already. This is the best place in Calapan to communicate with him and give thank to all he has given us.

Had the chance to see Sto. Nino Cathedral when I attended a co-worker's wedding. There were three couples being wed simultaneously. As always, collective wedding -as I witnessed also in other churches - never look good and seem chaotic. Witnesses to the ceremony make good laugh of it when the celebrant himself is getting confused as to who he blesses to whom. Laughter filled the air instead of what could have been a solemn event for the newly wed. More chaos came during the picture-taking, when every couple wanted to have pictures taken in front of the altar. Some had to wait while others contented taking pictures just anywhere else.
The Cathedral itself looked good, very clean, with trees providing shades at the parking area. It has an impressive altar in marble finish with stained window glasses providing decorative colors inside. The church prides itself of a pipe organ.
