The plan to had our camping outside the bustling city is indeed worthy. We gotta enjoy the beautiful weather and nice sceneries. The locals are also accomodating and friendly as they tend to our needs. Worth the 2 ½ days of stay.

The beach is a beautiful soft sand and resorts adjoining it keep it spotlessly clean. Tidal shifts are large and visitors can walk out to coral reefs at low tide. Authorized vendors offer a variety of engaging activities: jet skis, motor boat rides, dinner or lunch on a cruise, and banana boat rides.

There is Basura everywhere. Plastic, shoes, masks and all what you can imagine.
The beach is totally neglected by irresponsible tourists and the locals.
Avoid this place because is a real dump site and I even doing is healthy to swim there anymore, Manila bay is even cleaner than Matabungkay.

Due to poor planning, we werent able to book at Matabungkay Beach and Resort, but stayed at a resort nearby. The beach was very dirty, and water was not clear. We had to hire a boat to take us to an area where the water was clear and we could snorkel.

Wish the government could do something about this.

The ppace is still a go to travel by a lot of Filipinos. The location is perfect for family getway. However, I hope they control the number of businesses being built. Too much balsa. Too much bangka. Dangerous for children swimming. All in all it was a niceplace to go.

Matabungkay Beach is perfect for Weekend Getaway. It is just 3.5 hours travel time from Manila. The place is old but clean, organized and well maintained. The staffs were providing best service. The reason I gave it a 4-Star is the old room and the selection of food menu for buffet breakfast.

Matabungkay may lose its star in few years time if the people here were not aware of its status. I'm not an environmentalist but I am not blind to see that the beach is crying. :( The sand is not the same as it was before. You could really see that it was used and tired. Garbages are everywhere, though the sea is still fighting and still glowing (glad to hear).

Still, I enjoyed the overall experience. I just hope that they will rehabilitate it soon. :(

Matabungkay is certainly one of the more remote locations that we have visited in the Philippines. On the whole it is not too far to travel to local hubs like Liam but the experience ends there.

Once we arrived at the Matabungkay Beach Resort Hotel we entered "lockdown". The whole resort is guarded by armed guards. Although this is somewhat reassuring for safety it was horrendous as far as being a guest was concerned.

The Deluxe rooms were spacious, the TV worked and the internet (when it worked) was very good. The pools were excellent and the staff worked tirelessly to keep them clean. The overall impression of the hotel is that of a POW camp with too much concrete poured with very little attention to aesthetics.

The restaurant is clean and seems OK on first appearances. The menu was very limited and after creaming off the two or three more attractive dishes, it was very basic and the food quality was very poor. Their prices were reasonable but everything came with extra chew added to it.

Bar prices were extortionate. With local 711 prices at 50 pesos a can for beer, it seemed ridiculous that the bar charged 150 pesos.

This is where the Gestapo guard came in. It is FORBIDDEN to bring any form of food or beverage into the complex. You are committed to pay the resorts exorbitant prices for everything.

We resorted to waiting until the tide was out and then walking miles out to sea to get around the guard posts so that we could smuggle in beer from the local 711. We even had to export our empties in the same fashion as they were being monitored too.

After a week of exploring we did try to find alternative venues to eat. Maybe we were out of season but all the places that we tried were equally mediocre in the quality of the food.

I'm not particular in what I eat and will always try the local cuisine. However, I do like my food well cooked (as opposed to well done).

The beach local to the resort is dirty and full of seaweed. However, it is only a short walk along the beach to the local town where the beach is regularly cleaned. The water shelf is VERY shallow so it is ideal for families with young children. You have to go a reasonable distance into the surf in order to reach chest deep water.

Matabungkay is not too easy to reach from Manila. It entails a bus ride from Manila to Liam then, depending on the time of day, a jeepney or tricycle ride into Matabunkay. The bus ride is about 3-5 hours and the local ride about a further 45 mins.

On the whole it was a pleasant stay but not one to be recommended to foodies.

The how water was very unpredictable. On the whole I had more cold showers than hot ones.

its just 3-4 hours drive for manila, sand is black .beach is not that good but if you stay in a good resort near the beach its a nice place to enjoy the weekend. this place is perfect for family, I stayed in Matabungkay beach resort, its a good resort with so many activities to do . there are 2 swimming pools and lawn tennis, table tennis and many other games to play. Sand was not good at beach, so we spend most of the time at the resort only. So if you are looking for a weekend gateway outside manila its good but if you are looking for nice beaches then you should explore some other destination.

You can't swim in it. Most of the time its under-knee deep or too shallow. Though its good to breathe fresh seawater air. There were floating cottages and even 4 units of room-style suites right there in the beach. I dont think its good. Most people likely to throw trash/garbage/litters straight into the water.
