November 2014 was my first visit to Baguio in fourteen years. Now that they have opened up Camp John Hay to the public, we put it on our list of attractions to visit. It's clean, green and good for souvenir photos. There is adequate parking. The guards are courteous and helpful. There are new hotels and lodges inside the Camp plus lots of restaurants and shops which sell branded goods. What interested us was the Eco Trail for birdwatching. And we were not disappointed. At the Eco-trail behind the Butterfly Garden, we saw the Citrine Canary Flycatcher, Sulphur Billed Nuthatch, Blue headed fantail, Turqoise Flycatcher, mountain white eye, gray streaked flycatcher and of course the common crow. Can't wait to get back to do more birdwatching. For the other interests, the adventure park has paintball, target shooting,slide and rapelling and wall climbing.

It was fun walking through the historical core. The entry fee was nominal and the gardens were well tended. The historical core consists of the cemetery of negativism, the gardens, Bell house and a few trails within.
You can easily spend half a day here. Just remember to bring your food and water - there are (sadly) no places to eat here - and just a few stalls selling mostly rubbish.
Even though it is rather poor in sign boards and information, the historical core is a nice place to saunter around - especially the Bell house and the neighboring gardens
Luckily we had brought our food so we were able to enjoy our picnic here.
How to reach?
Facing Manor hotel, just walk up the steps on the right side - towards Tree top adventure and Camping grounds. Te historical core lies right next to the big statue

The cooler place under the pine trees even at midday. Can stay longer if one plans to do. Soft breezy feeling and contented to recline and stretch for a while.
We did bring our small pack for some eats and drinks but made sure we dispense at the right place and right bin. Clean place, peaceful and scenic.
Do not miss this place ... include it in your itinerary.

If you feel the need to escape Manila, you may go to Baguio. If you feel the need to escape Baguio, go to Camp John Hay. I love the serenity of the place. There are coffee shops and museums as well.

I have been to Camp John Hay many times for all kinds of reasons - fir Golf, snacks, bowling, a piece of History, etc..... over the years.......
its prime location is obvious in that the Americans appropriated a valuable piece of real estate - the Ambassador's Residence is hidden on the Camp's edge where, if you can get inside, one can get a view of the Baguio airport and the Phil. Military Academy just a stone's throw away......'
the place can really be many things to a lot of folks - can make for an excellent family outing with a lot of amusement possibilities for young kids....
a MUST SEE for all kinds of vicitors......

Going around camp john hay is a wonderful experience. the scenery is fantastic especially during the holiday season and there are lots of resto and coffee shops to satisfy your cravings for food. the commissary and other boutiques also offer discount prices

I would've appreciated it if there was an organized tour guide. So there's a library, the cabin, a totem pole of past john hay admins, pet cemetery...ok and then?

Had our touchdown here during our last visit. Good place to picnic. Had our lunch there. Chilly place. There are dangers though along the tree paths. One kid tumbled over a protruding tree root and hit his face and shoulder badly on the ground. Park staffs where there to assist at once. Before the incident, we saw two guys exchanging blow on the road. The guard was there to break up the fight but got involved himself. Not sure if these people were drunk but seemed likely. All in all, the place is an excellent place for family picnic and gathering.

We went up to the Philippines' summer capital in 2010 when we enrolled our eldest at the UP Baguio. Since then we are mesmerized by this small, old yet cosmopolitan mountain city built by the Americans and one of their many works there is the beautiful Camp John Hay. With its manicured green lawns bedecked by colorful flower of different and attractive colors the place is most ideal for visitors who delights in walking and whiling away their time amidst chirping birds, the scent of pine trees and the smiles of friendly people around. The place is home to excellent hotels like Manor and Forest Lodge Hotels that offer good food and attraction, excellent service and facilities equal to none. We fell in love with the city and we are now permanent residents of this beautiful mountain city. Thank you God for this gift of beautiful place of retirement.
