It cost our cruise ship $385,000 to transverse the three locks to enter Gatun Lake (and return) in 2018. Even with the new locks, fewer ships use it. The Canal is very busy. It appears to be in need of some maintenance although the moving...More

It took about an hour to get to the canal. Once there, I was concerned with the crowd on the ferry boat. It turned out to be very manageable. We went through 3 locks and they were amazing. The other SHIPS were tremendous. I am...More

Best way to view the Gatun Locks is via cruise ship. These are the only way 'down' to the Caribbean if coming from the Pacific is through these Locks and they are very similar to the Milaflores Locks, except these locks take all sizes. A...More

We sailed through on a cruise ship through the old locks, then took a trip to the new locks. Fascinating and amazing engineering feat.

We experienced the journey through these locks while on a cruise last year . It was the highlight of our trip. We got up at 6 am to see the ship pass underneath the trans American highway bridge . Very hot and humid here. Lots...More

Anyone who travels always has the Panama Canal on their bucket list. I think the idea is more significant than the act. The surrounding landscape is beautiful and ugly. The process of moving a cruise ship is fascinating but the views are limited. So, it...More

A very industrial area. Part of the Panama Canal. Cool experience to see, especially if you have never been through locks before.

A must visit when in Panama. I went to both Locks but found Gatun to be the better of the two. Colon is a bit on the seedy side but the surrounding location is nice a tropical.

The locks and ships passing through are interesting to watch. You can marvel on how this was built a long time ago and is still functioning to move lots of ship traffic.

We enjoyed watching the workings of the canal. Our guide offered excellent explanations. It was amazing. We had no idea so much water was required in order to operate the locks.

Some cruise lines offer trips on the lake, it depends on how long the ship is to remain in the lake before going back out. We originally had a tour scheduled but since the ship was only going to be there for a couple of... More

Miraflores. It has a visitor centre from which you get great views of the ships manoeuvring through. Very interesting, and great fun. Enjoy.

I too am not sure if old center is open for business. We were picked up by bus and our guide did mention the new visitor center. Unfortunately, it wasn't part of the tour.
