    Truly the most incredible hotel!
We have stayed at the Anantara Jebel Akhdar many times since it opened in 2017, and there’s a reason we return time and time again – it’s the most beautiful hotel in a stunning location with exceptional service. We usually visit in August as an escape from the Dubai heat – it’s 15-20 degrees cooler at the top of the mountain and such a wonderful respite from the Dubai Summer. The rooms are beautiful – all have a view of the mountain which is literally breathtaking. The staff are all wonderful and so friendly – they take the time to get to know you and to greet you individually and look after you so well. Thank you to Ismail and Sufyan who serviced our room, Shafiq and his assistant at the pool who helped us each day – always on hand to help and even bringing fruit treats and juices for our daughter. The countless friendly staff at breakfast each day who were always checking on us to see what we needed – and thank you especially to the chefs. Our daughter is lactose and gluten intolerant and not only were there lots of options for her, the chef also greeted us each day and offered to make her special meals which she was thrilled about. The spa is beautiful – thank you for a wonderful massage. There’s also yoga at 7 am and 5 pm almost every day and the yoga instructor is fantastic – even my husband enjoyed our class. The recreation centre houses a sweet Kids Club – thank you to Sam for taking such great care of our daughter – it was lovely to see you again. There’s also a really well-equipped gym with a beautiful tennis court. It was wonderful to work out whilst watching the rain fall down outside. One thing that sets the Anantara above other hotels is their CSR initiatives – they are truly committed to giving back to the community around them, as is evident by their animal welfare initiatives. They care for resident cats and mountain dogs – see if you can spot the sweet little cat houses around the resort and if you are lucky, you may meet one of the friendly resident cats – my daughter fell in love with Olive, a sweet little cat who hangs out by the pool, when she is in the mood! In a world where so many businesses and brands say they are trying to help the planet, it’s so refreshing to see one that is really making a difference to the world. We are already planning our next trip and can’t wait to get back to the mountain.

Do not be afraid to drive up yourself
How to get there : to the Saiq plateau in the first place… there is a check point on the road up, they do check your drivers license “check again on the way back” which we did not do because there was a row of cars waiting on the other side. The road up is excellent, better then some roads in the Alps. We did stumble on an news item about a serious road accident last summer: may the the way back down to Nizwa deserves respect and attention, there were several emergency lanes for cars with brake issues. But we did not consider this a road in need for 4WD. But we guess they would not let you pass the check point when not drving of 4WD. On the plateau itself we drove into a little village, when driving back up we were glad to have 4WD. And we did not drive off road. So don’t be afraid but be patient and careful , as one always should be when conducting 2000 kg of steel. The views are magnificant, the walks beautiful, it is cool and more quiet than in the Nizwa area, certainly worth while the trip

We wanted to visit the "Green Mountain" from Muscat but did not have a 4WD. I contacted a local guide, Mr. Nasser bin Mansour Al-Zakwani (+968 9266 0379). He responded immediately and suggested a meeting point in Birkat Al Mouz. We drove there in our 2WD car and saved some money by not having to pay for a much more pricey trip to Jebel Akhdar using a guide from Muscat. Mr. Nasser first showed us the deserted mud village in Birkat Al Mouz (please do not skip having Karak Tea at the cafe next to the mud village! Best Karak I had during my extended stay in Oman!!!). After that, he took us for a 4-hour exploration of Jebel Akhdar. He navigated the curvy roads up to the mountain very safely, walked us through the villages at the top of the mountain, and shared with us his knowledge of the area. He was fun to be around and I highly recommend him as a guide for Nizwa, Jebel Akhdar and Jebel Shams, and other surrounding areas. Without him, even after an extended research, I would not be exactly sure where to go and what to visit up there. Plan at least a half-day for this trip, more time if you want to have lunch in one of the resorts at the top of the mountain and relax while enjoying the fascinating views. I hope to one day visit Jebel Akhdar during the March-April damask rose season!

To get here you would need to hire a 4 wheel drive. The police at the check post are extremely strict. Hire one from the town just before the climb, you’ll save money.
The trip is worth both the drive and the views. It could get a bit nippy so carry a wind cheater or a light woollen with you.

The area is very nice but unluckily the Hotel was bad, Dusit D2 Naseem resort, as we had very bad experience with it && does not deserve the money I paid for it although I am a golden member of Dusit Thani series but this resort might affect the reputation of this series

Wild camping on the mountain summit. Watching both the Sun rise and set is as wonderful as falling asleep under the stars with very little light pollution. The world seems to have come to peace with itself here.
One word….. Fantastic

Beautiful stop in Oman, the green mountains offer a fantastic view from the top.
In order to get to the top of the Jabal Al Akhdar and access the hotels (Alila, Anantara…) you need a 4x4 car.
If you don’t have one, you need to book a private driver. The ones proposed by the hotels are very expensive (Anantara told us 65 OMR round trip).
During our stay, we met an extremely nice driver, Saïd, who we highly recommend. He proposed to drive us for a very fair price (35 OMR round trip, but we gave him 40 OMR). He spontaneously gave us tour of the Jabal Al Akhdar musts to visit (Seeq village, rose distillery, rose gardens…) and was very caring since I was pregnant (drove slowly, proposed toilet stops..).
He can drive you around, not only to jabal Al Akhdar, but also Muscat and other places in the country. He is also a guide.
You can contact him through whatsapp at this number: +96898111259
