Really enjoyed the beautiful beach at Manukan. Snorkelling from the beach. Lots of fishes. Worth the 15min boatride. They have changing facilities, lockers, restaurant. Afternoon well spent.

Manukan is the most popular island with Kota Kinabalu residents. Manukan has some good stretches of beaches on the southern coastline. The best beach is on the eastern tip of the island.

I went on an island-hopping tour from Jesselton ferry terminal and this is one of the islands I stopped along the way. Unlike the other surrounding islands, this one is relately small with nothing much to do except going swimming. I recommend going early to visit multiple islands instead of just going to this one. You must pay a RM25 admission for every island, which kind of sucks.

Easily accessible islands off the coast of KK with good food, showers, lovely beaches, hire of snorkeling gear, good corals and tropical fish; only to be very disappointed by the amount of floating plastic in and around the islands and the harbor.
Considering the amount of officials checking your boat and park entry tickets, you would think they would have the ability to also organize clean up or legislation to avoid such mess.

overcrowded, litter on beach and in water, people everywhere, dead coral, ok for little kids and the unadventurous. I was a bit disappointed to be honest but we booked a two island trip and Mamutik made up for it!

The beach is very small and was littered with debris this could be from the natural habitat but also from all the tourists coming in speed boats. There are a lot of water activities to do such as sea walking, snorkeling, parasailing etc. There are a couple of restaurants and facilities as well.

As part of our Borneo tour, we spent 2 night including Christmas Eve on Manukan Island. The island is not very big with not a lot to do besides swimming. The main walking track to Sunset Point is about 20 mintes walk however part of the track had fallen away. We still managed to climb around to make our destination. The only drawback to the island was the enormous amounts of rubbish on the beaches. I think staff from the resort were cleaning it up when we left. Overall it was a nice stay and a great place to relax and unwind.

The island is pretty nice. However, there is a lot of rubbish in the sea which spoiled our time there. The water was rather cloudy as well (maybe do to recent stormy weather) so not much to see.
Suggest the island management sort out the rubbish problem ASAP.

Lots of plastic trash in the water. Most disappointing. It used to be clear and clean. But not that day.

How long should we stsy in the Manukan island? Is 2 hrs enough?

Depends on what you want to do. If you only want to bathe and relax, 2 hours should be enough. There's also a trail in the island that will take you to the top of the mountain with a nice view. If you want to go trekking and also bathe in the water, I would add another hour. But the last ferry leaves at 4PM so I would advise to go early.
What's the price of water sports roughly sold on the island? I'm interested in sea walking and parasailing.

If we are staying in sutera sanctuary resort how can we have the water sports activity? Are there operators for the water sport on the island itself?

Kota Kinabalu is in Malaysia. You will need to check the visa requirements for Malaysia with their government. The island of Manukan does not have any further visa requirements. Hope this helps you.
Have fun.

Yes, they do. Just be sure to ask when you buy your tickets.
I have 2 young children, 3yo and 1yo. Will there be lifejackets for their size? And will we be charged for my infant and my child?
If i take grab, do I indicate 'Jesselton Point' as my destination?
Is the food at the islands halal?
Thank you.

They may not have lifejackets for children as you as one. There was a family on our boat and the 2 girls around 6 and 4 had life jackets but the youngest child who was around one year old did not

How to get to Manukan island?
I have 10 adult and 8 kids. Age between 1 yr plus to 10 year old.
Is the boat fee still rm28 for adult and rm18 for kid?
Any food stall in the island?
I’m going for a day trip.
What is the boat timing?
