Walked up- took us 1.5 hours up and 45 minutes down and felt every step of the 4300 steps…

Many leeches - read about what to do to avoid the panic when they land in you- and they will land on you ! Was a great walk and really good exercise but the leeches were off putting.
Our fitness would be just above average as a guide for timings.

Also note there is limited ability to stop and rest as if you stop then the leeches climb on to you. If you keep moving you significantly reduce leech attachment!

I’m maybe not selling it well. We enjoyed it but it was hard therefore rewarding. Take lots of water and it can be slippery as the stairs are mostly concrete so don’t go if you have dodgy ankles.

Easy drive up and good view (when its not cloudy or misty)

There are many shy but hungry dogs all along the road going up, please take some dog food along for them. 5kg bags of kibble can be found in supermarkets in the city.

You can pour the food onto the ground at the first large open space on the left going up - you may not see any dogs but by the time you come back down the food will be magically gone !

Rented a motorbike to get here. It has a beautiful view of the island. I came here 14 years ago and I will always come here when I come to Langkawi.

Gunung Raya was worth visiting. Nice views over Langkawi. The road is well paved. No eateries on top, just look-out.

We travelled to Langkawi in late April/early May. Not sure if the trail is typically better maintained when it's outside of Ramadan, but the trail was covered with lots of leafy debris and at least two fallen trees before we reached the halfway mark. As we got deeper into the woods, we noticed many leeches were climbing on and into our shoes(!!!!) We abandoned the trail at the halfway mark and made our way back down. Not recommended if it's been raining and you're not prepared with proper jungle trekking clothes/shoes!

We scootered to the top about 15km from the bottom. It was an amazing ride, there are several monkeys along the road so be careful not to run them over and please do not try and play with them as they can be aggressive when feeling threatened. On the bike, you feel that it gets so much cooler on the descent, so bring a light jacket. There are 2 lookouts, one before Gunung Raya, we went here as GR was closed, not sure til when or due to Covid. Nevertheless, the view is still breathtaking. If traveling with kids and elderlies or frail, the first lookout would suffice as at GR you have to climb up a few more steps.

Tangga Helang Seribu Kenangan has a path to the submit with a height of 4287 steps. The first stairs are built at 55.4 m high while the highest stairs at 787.8 m high with 3.1 km. This trekking trail is very different from any other mountain in Malaysia. The Thousand Eagle Eagle Stairs were built in March 2000 and completed in February 2001.

Drove up this hill in february 2020. Spectacular 180° views of South Langkawi from a point closer to the summit. The drawback is the summit itself is off limits because viewing tower and restaurant have been closed.

Great few after the drive up window throat, but everything is closed: the tower, restaurant, everything. Better bring your own water!

This is a great ride up the mountains for those who enjoy riding their scooters. It is the highest point on Langkawi, but unfortunately there isn't anything at the top so it loses a point for that.

The viewing tower is closed, nowhere to buy water or anything like that otherwise it would be a really good day out, I didn't spend too long up the top due to hazy conditions making the photos a bit unclear and like I said I couldn't buy a drink.

Still, it was a great ride up and down, good viewpoints and a few monkeys along the way.
