This is one of the best places in Fukuoka to see how locals celebrate cherry blossom. It is not only a wonderful view of trees (white and pink) in bloom, but festive atmosphere of picnic and music in the evening. It is free during the...More

Easy to visit with the subway red/orange line from the citycenter = Tenjin station = K08 to Ohorikoen station = K06; A very pleasant walk in Maizuri park will take you to the castle built in 1601 in 7 years by Kuroda Nagamasa, first lord...More

The castle ruins are in the park next to Ohiri Park and are worth a walk through while you are in the neighborhood. There is not much to see, but the view from the top is excellent. Cherry trees fill the property and in cherry...More

This is a really interesting place of great historical relevance for Fukuoka and Japan. Pity that most of the place is in ruins. You can get a nice 360 degree view of the surrounding area and the walk is pretty. Based on prior posts and...More

It's a shame some castles are destroyed once conquered. I had the castle all to myself on a cool spring day, with cherry blossoms a couple of weeks from reaching full bloom. Could only use my imagination to visualise the vast number of soldiers guarding...More

You could not see much of the Fukuoka Castle but you can see the old walls and some reiun left. The view of the city is great from here.

Getting to the ruins, located in Maizuru Park, requires a long walk up a hill and stairs but the view from the observatory makes it worthwhile. The castle was once a flourishing place 400 years ago but today is mainly the ruins of stone walls,...More

Parking is easily found near the Fukuoka castle remains. Walk 10 mins to the remains and the gardens around are very interesting. Remains are not much to see however, the parks with less tourists made us very happy to visit.

We went on 8 Oct, 2017 and the one turret still intact was hidden behind some scaffolding for renovation. Wish I had known that before hand. The walls are still quite impressive, and the hike up to the top is very reasonable, but with small...More
