I rent a bicycle at Shikashima Cycle near harbor. Climbing up to Shiomi Park is worth sweating. 360 degree ocean view was fabulous. Take a route from north, which is less steep than from south. Lunch at Hamakouya. Their Sashimi seafood was incredibly fresh. Enjoyed...More

A friend and I cycled from Tenjin to Shikanoshima and found it to be an enjoyable and not terribly difficult trip. From Tenjin to Shikanoshima, you do pass through a bit of an industrial zone, that isn't overly interesting but the uminonakamichi area before that...More

Took the ferry from Fukuoka (only 3 people) to the Island. In the summer it's crowded, but off season I was almost alone. Rented a bicycle and rode around the perimeter in about an hour. Gorgeous views, light traffic, and good exercise.

Fukuoka and Shikanoshima area was battle ground, occasionally still dig up Mongolian armor from field and ocean floor. Today, it's so peaceful and quiet village. Attraction is good fishing...More

I personally love it and highly recommend it as bicycle trip! You can access the islad from the land by the long bridge and then just cycle around (around 10km ring). There is beautiful nature around and the round is in a perfect condition. When...More

We took the Uminaka Ferry Line (about 20 minutes by boat) to this beautiful island near Fukuoka, visiting Marine World and Uminonakamichi Seaside Park. It was an unexpectedly fun and relaxing day out for the family! We left late afternoon via JR Line trains.
