It was refreshing to escape the boards of tourist buses we glimpsed at the temple and simply wander the streets amongst the locals. Some delightful boutiques in beautiful alleys.

If you have been to Kyoto, it's not worth a detour. But it's totally without crowds and you can have a peaceful walk

Well worth a stroll around the old town. Lots of lovely buildings and things to see. Similar to Gion in Kyoto.

And fascinating shops. Streets either side of a covered arcade very atmospheric. About 1 km uphill from station although gradient easy.
