We strolled along the forest and liked the quiet environment around. There was not much visitors. The shrine uphill was small and worth to walk here.

A quiet, off the beaten path, path in Nikko is a real find. You will probably not see another tourist - or if you do it will be the only one or two - and they too will be appreciating the quiet of this special...More

This is a walk away from the main temples and it's so peaceful. We barely saw anyone on our way, found little waterfalls and it was just stunning. This temple was well worth the walk.

The forest, the walk, it's all so gorgeous. Keep your camera handy you'll want to post your pics to instagram for sure.

A lovely quite and simple shrine in nature. Covered in moss and surrounded by trees it creates a peaceful feeling. Worth the walk there

This is the highlight of a long walk. I didn't know what to expect and I don't think I was expected something grand . To me it's more the experience of the whole walk up to this final point and it's absolutely satisfying. This low...More

Maybe because of the great reviews, I had too high of expectations for Takinoo shrine. Some things to keep in mind: 1. The walk is a little far from the main shrine area. This is a good thing in that it means a lot fewer...More

So I went to Nikkou, finally. This shrine was not very popular but it is very interesting. From Toushouguu it's a kilometer hike along a difficult stone path. I had loads of fun though. Takinou Jinja is a very mysterious shrine with many blessings to...More

If your tired of the crowds and the expansive gaudiness of the big shrines, look for this place. While not easy to find at first by any map, it is a local gem. Walking up to it, one passes through a primeval forest with waterfalls...More
