One of the more beautiful old buildings, less imposing than Kyoto buildings - but large and comfortable with lovely paintings and marvelous gardens.

A short walk about 800m from the main shrines, this is a remake of the Emperor's villa. It's a quite and beautiful villa with a nice garden. Don't miss it

You can do Nikko in a day and I had time to kill (I didn’t go out to Keagon Falls area). So I took the 15 minute walk to the villa. This is where the imperial family visited in the summers up until the end...More

Well kept, beautiful and huge villa, with incredible gardens and very kind staff. Not to be missed to have a flavour of the past.

There were few visitors which made the visit more special . The restoration works on this more than century old building are first class . For me this is a must visit for both the villas and the gardens .

I understand why this was used as a summer retreat, so peaceful. The gardens were the main attraction to me. Lots of great historical information in Japanese and English

My husband and I stumbled upon this site on our way to the Botanical Garden from the Nikko Temples and Shrines. After all the tour bus crowds, the Memorial Park and Imperial Villa was a peaceful retreat on beautiful grounds. The villa is a lovely...More

On the way to my hotel, I stopped in at the Tamozawa Villa. It is well worth the 500 yen entry fee. The route is clearly marked out and if you take your time, allow about an hour to see it properly. Plenty of signs...More

The Imperial Villa is a little off the beaten track to the Nikko temple area. The villa is surounded by a beautiful Japanese garden and the simple architecture is pleasantly different from the overloaded abundance of Nikko.

The street-side view of the villa fails to convey the magnificence of the property. For anyone who appreciates Japanese culture and history, this is a "must" while visiting Nikko.
