Fujikura Shoten is one of my long-time stops in Narita Town, Japan. It is about halfway along the street of traditional shops connecting the railway stations to the must-see Narita-san Shinshoji Temple. Over the 20 years I've been visiting, many old shops have been replaced by the kind of banal tourist souvenir stores familiar from everywhere. But Fujikura Shoten is real! This shop offers (in addition to a few items of apparently mandatory tourist junk) everyday Japanese household items made of wood or bamboo, including many unfamiliar to non-Japanese - lots of wooden kitchen tools, and some very amusing other items (like a turtle-shaped rice-bristle shoe scraper). A visit to Narita Town is an excellent way to spend waiting time while at NRT airport. Narita Town is 10 minutes away from Terminal 1 via local trains on either Kesei or JR railways. Allow 1.5--2 hr for shopping trip, or longer to visit the temple.
