Back after 12 years and much changes....more commericalised, more vibrant with foreign noisy crowd, more expensive items, less friendlier.

Just another street of Japanese local Atami snacks.

I'd recommend the honey being sold in one of the shops though. Otherwise, nothing there I cannot buy anywhere else... Some of the local fermented seafood were of top quality though, but certainly challenging for tourists to bring home.

Another I do strongly recommend is a Pudding stall hidden in a corner within the vicinity. Just ask around for Atami Pudding. You need patience though, because the queue is so long, the owner actually had to rent another place across the road just to accommodate the queue, and they had 3 security personnel ushering patrons to cross the road to place order. :D Very interesting experience. Must-try.

I was disappointed when I walked along this street because many of the stores seemed to be shuttered. The closer you get to the station, the more activity you will find at the stores. The best thing to do here is to sit down and people watch. If you get off the main shopping street, the shopowners get more talkative, and I had a nice conversation with a fellow who wanted to talk about his love of American country music and western movies. I guess that I was lucky to be old enough to know the movies he was talking about. Visited 16 November 2018.

Alot of shops and eateries but it gets boring after awhile as most shops seem to sell the same confectionaries and Japanese sweets. Otherwise a nice walk-through before dinner when you alight at Atami Station — shops were mostly closing around 7pm when we passed by.

We picked up small souvenirs, but we spent more time tasting everything that was either brought in fresh from the fisherman, a local coffee house or even some sweet bean buns. Walking this areas and the side streets was a great way to pass the afternoon.

I had fun looking at various shops on this street. It's a typical old-fashioned shopping street in Japan. There aren't very many high-end shops, but there are stores which have been there for years. It's a nice stroll.

Nice to see the business coming back to Atami after the renovation of the train station front. Five years ago it was a ghost town, but with the improvements slowly happening, visitors are returning.

If you have some spare time around the station in Atami and you wish to eat something and maybe do some souvenir shopping, this is a good place to do that. It is similar to other Ekimae (in front of station) shopping streets in other touristy places in Japan though, nothing special.

This shopping street outside JR station is quite short in fact, but there are a number of shops on it selling local produce, from the dried fish and shrimps which are famous, to souvenirs and snacks. There are also a few restaurants too.

This street has all kind of souvenir shops. A lot of them cater to Japanese tourists who like to buy some specific foodstuff of the region/city which they visit. Whether it be seafood, cookies or Japanese sweets. I walked through this street when going from the Atami JR train station to my hotel. But this street could have been in any Japanese tourist city.

This is a shopping arcade just beside JR Atami station. Here you can find any souvenir of Atami such as Onsen Manjyu (a kind of cake). There are also some unpretentious restaurants.
