This old and famous hot spring close to Mt Fuji was loved by Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. He brought the hot spring water to Tokyo for his bath. It used to be a famous honeymoon location. There are many hotels and inns to choose from. Try indoor and outdoor tubs. If you take Shinkansen, it is only 50 minutes away from Tokyo. There is long distance bus service to here, too.
If you are in or around Tokyo, this is a very interesting cultural experience.

【 熱海桜( Atami Zakura ) 】

I had not known this wonderful and interesting cherry blossom honestly until this month.
I was so astonished to see the cherry trees in full bloom here in Atami Onsen.
I suppose, many of Japanese people also don’t know this cherry blossom.

It’s called [ Atami Zakura ] and it’s actually native to India, and Italians kindly brought this cherry trees to Atami previously.
Basically it becomes in full bloom from the beginning of February until the middle of February.

It’s not so much popular yet fortunately, what’s more, it’s still middle of February now, thus if you went to Atami, you could see these impressive cherry trees.
The beautiful blue sky also goes well with the cherry trees.

I can assure you that you will be touched by this Atami Zakura.

Tomoko san and co welcomed us to a full japanese family experience at Atami hotel, offered us a drink of hot or cold OCH depending on the weather. Showed us around the Ryokan and the facilities. Our room was absolutely breath taking, clean, beautifully organized and decorated fully equipped with all the essentials. And the size is really ...big.
Everything was sparkly clean, not a speck of dust. It also had one of the most beautiful panoramic view of Atami ocean from the mountains I ever seen.

Breakfast is very delicious, prepared by Tomoko san herself, who majored in nursing and caring. So you know you can expect a lot.

The onsen is nice, it's maybe a bit small for the size of the Ryokan but it has what you need to have a pleasant onsen experience.

I absolutely loved the stay and will be heading back whenever I am in the area and I urge the other travelers to give this lovely heartwarming Ryokan a chance.

I wholeheartedly thank the staff for the great experience again.
Domo arigatou gozaimashita!!!

You can enjoy a nice view from Atami ropeway over the ocean. The city itself consists of plenty of concrete housing.
Went there as it was on our way back to Tokyo but think it is not worth while a visit by itself. If you want to go there combine it with another place.

When you want to get away from hot springs in the mountains like winter Atami and Izu overall is the ticket. Being on the seaside is in fact warmer in the winter and makes for a more pleasant stay. Summer time is great with all the fireworks and entertainment.
