The market opens at 0700 hrs and we arrived shortly afterwards. We decided to try the local goodies such as octopus balls which consisted of a small piece of octopus, spring onion, cheese and a few other ingredients that I wasn’t quite sure of in...More

This is a very small market but it is certainly worth visiting. There are several stalls selling produce that they have grown or made plus some selling snacks. Bought some fantastic miso and tasted pickles and teas and some of the shop fronts that run...More

Pleasant walk but very limited stalls and variety of goods sold at the market. Kind of overrated place to visit.

Clean and fresh air especially, morning market. Can spend half day there. Alot of interesting to see there. Especially, their vegetables very fresh and so many types of pickles. Worth to get up early, taking shuttle to there.

Must visit morning market by the beautiful river in Takayama. So many choices of food e.g. octopus balls, rice crackers, fruits, sweets and pickles to try before buying. Vendors are friendly and they don’t obligate you to buy if you don’t like the food. Lots...More

Our tour group spent a morning visiting this market. In many ways it is a typical local market, however it's location along the river provided a scenic background most markets lack. For me the most interesting feature was a stand at which a lady was...More

Nothing too bad about this morning market, but it is hardly what one might expect. A rather small collection of stalls set up to cater to the tourist trade, and it was heaving with tour groups when we visited on an early May morning. I...More

Gave an extra star as it was a beautiful morning! Stroll along the riverbank in the sunshine and check out the market stalls. Peep into the river and watch the giant fish lazily swimming. Market open from 7.30 till noon - busiest days with the...More

This is a great market in a very attractive spot. There are craft, food and souvenir stalls. It was very pleasant walking and browsing at the various stalls, the prices were very reasonable. Well worth a visit.

The Morning Market is lively and fun. You can sample all sorts of unusual food and buy little gifts for the folks at home. Enjoyed watching the woman who makes octopus balls and some of the other street food vendors.

Many travellers are travelling to that area for the snow during that period. Hopefully the tourist agency can respond to your enquiries! The Japanese people really love their holidays. I believe there's also a nearby town... More

It would be better to go earlier to be on the safe side. There are two markets the bigger one (though still small) is in an open space, the other is along the riverbank, just a few mins walk away. I found this one more... More

Takayama is relatively small and most attractions can be reached by walking. This is the best way to see the town. There is no need to take taxi or public transport. Get a map from the bus station. There is an information... More
