Meander Travel arranged tours for us in multiple cities: Heraklion in Crete, Ephesus and Istanbul in Turkey, and Mykonos. Each tour guide provided historical overviews on the sights seen, and the tours were thoroughly enjoyable. We're looking forward to our next trip and will definitely use Meander Travel again.

The tour operator was friendly, kind, with good sense of humour, willing to explain and provide any kind of information needed. He was knowledgeable! He was speaking English fluently. I really enjoyed my short visit in Ephesus and Kusadasi! I strongly recommend this travel agency!

We are a family with 4 children (3 teens and a 10 year old) and hired Meander Travel for a private tour of Ephesus, the Cave of the Seven Sleepers, the Temple of Artemis and Sirince. Hakan Edirne was our guide--he was fantastic and engaging to both us and our kids. Hakan is an archaeologist and spent a year studying at Northwestern University. He met us promptly at the port at Kusadasi and we toured in a very comfortable, air conditioned mini-bus. He has great pride in his country and shared both his knowledge of ancient Turkey and modern times with us. He was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant and we felt very fortuante to have him as our guide. I would recommend Meander Travel and Hakan to anyone traveling to Ephesus.

Quite simply this is the most unhelpful travel agency I have ever encountered. They have the monopoly on the ferry from Kusadasi to Pythagorio and they act like any monopoly does: with disdain for the customer.

We tried to call, email and WhatsApp the agency before we arrived in Kusadasi with no luck. On the day we arrived we went to book the trip to Samos and we were told by the most unhelpful lady that the boat is full, there is no waitlist, there is no other way to Samos unless we chartered a boat for two thousand Euros. We had accommodation already paid in Samos so we were of course keen to get over, but not at that price. We spoke with her colleagues who told us that indeed there is a waitlist and we needed to return the next morning at 8:30am.

On the next day we managed to get a spot on the ferry. In addition we found out that the other boat to Vathy (by a different company) was also leaving at the same time. She could have suggested we catch the ferry to Vathy and rent a car from there, but that would have been helpful.

Basically: the lady at Meander travel lied multiple times and nearly cost us our accommodation in Samos. The level of contempt this lady showed for complete strangers who were polite and respectful is astounding. Meander’s monopoly means they nearly sell out every day, and if a few individuals get lost in the cracks , oh well. To Meander Travel, tourists are a commodity to be exploited, not human beings present at their offices who might need help and advice. I mentioned to one of the employees that we tried to call and WhatsApp and struggled to make a reservation and could they please advise how, in future, we could reach them. The problematic lady jumped in suddenly and said “you should have WhatsApped us” at which point even her colleagues corrected her that WhatsApp is never answered by them.

Save yourself some the aggravating experience: stay clear of Meander Travel. If you need to go to Samos take a flight.

We bought tickets for Samos from an agent and they referred us to Meander Travel as the ferry is operated by them for the check-in, telling us it's imperative we go to Meander office as the document they gave us was not a ticket. After walking in midday sun for 20 minutes, I arrived at Meander offices and waited my turn for another 15 minutes to be told we could not check in at that time (less than 24hrs to departure) as they weren't sure if we'd show up next day. When I told the young lady I was directed by the travel agent, she said they made a mistake and dialled the agent (knowing it would be a waste of my time as she would not check us in). The agent was very rude on the phone (more on this in their review; Anker Travel) and I hung up the phone, but the receiver didn't settle in the cradle, so I had to try again. The manager of the Meander offices started screaming obscenities at me in front of other customers saying I should not bang their device, I had been a horrible customer, etc. When I tried to explain to her the phone receiver didn't properly sit on the cradle she continued her rant at an even higher pitch; even as I left I could hear her scream from the street behind my back. There are OTHER ferry companies from Kusadasi to Samos; we are experienced and well-travelled reviewers for Tripadvisor, take our word and AVOID this company at all costs.

I booked a private tour of Ephesus and the Terrace Houses with Meander Travel when our cruise ship came into port. This was one of the highlights of our trip.

They picked us up just outside the port in a clean air conditioned private bus for our 32 family members. Our driver and private guide, Amy, were fantastic. They took us directly to the site where went on a fantastic walking tour of the ruins. The highlight was our walk through the Terrace Houses display. If you go to Ephesus you must visit this area of the site. It is incredible to see how well some of the people lived. Plus you get a few minutes of relief from the sun.

Amy the guide they arranged for us was a walking encyclopedia of information. She knew so much about Ephesus. She also had the ability to keep our group together and moving. She also arranged a private lunch for us after the tour that was one of the highlights of our trip. It was an amazing assortment of Turkish kebobs and salads at an incredibly responsible price.

We saved over 50% off the Princess shore excursion cost going with our private tour which was just an added bonus. Private is the only way to go.

The ride from Kusadasi to Samos was okay. There was plenty of room and the ferry leaves on time. Our issue was with the logistics and the lack of communication from the company. We (two couples) bought tickets from Kusadasi to Samos (Vathy Port) a few weeks in advance. Our emails and even our tickets show that we were going to the Vathy Port. We also bought tickets in advance from the Vathy Port to Mykonos for that very same day. When we get to the Meander offices to pick up our tickets we receive the news that the port has been changed since a couple of weeks before. We showed our printed emails and the communication between the Company and ourselves and noted that we were sold tickets to the Vathy Port. After very long discussions with the company, with the ferry company in Samos and the captain of the boat we decided to go ahead and head to Samos and that we would figure it out once we got there. Nobody helped us out other than the Ferry company in Samos, but we missed our connecting ferry due to the long distance between ports. As a result we spent about $800 that we had not planned on spending due to having to book a flight for the very next morning from Samos to Mykonos and a hotel for the night. We have been trying to get at the very least a refund from Meander we have been put off by them for the longest time now. It has been very frustrating as they do now own up to their negligence. I would HIGHLY recommend for you to ensure that what you have booked online is actually what you are going to get and call beforehand.

Meander Travel your company exceeded all our expectations. Our tour was amazing. Firstly I must thank Hasene Gur. She was a wonderful young lady! (I had been communicating with her for over 6months thinking she was a male !!) My sincere apologies. You were exceptional. Your planning of our holiday in Turkey was everything we expected and more. Our guide you choose was also exceptional. Typhoon Yalcin has had 20 years experience guiding in Turkey and his knowledge on all the historical sites we visited was excellent.(Of course our knowledge was very average!) We rejected the history test he was going to subject us to at the end of the tour!. He was extremely professional, very respectful of all our needs ie knee issues negotiating steps & stairs. Had a wonderful sense of humour, and added a personal Turkish dimension to the Turkey we expected to see. Thank you Typhoon for making our time in Turkey so enjoyable.
Highlights were of course:- Istanbul. What an amazing city. We visited all the historical sites over three days, really enjoyed Chora Church, Suleymaniye Mosque, Bosphorus Cruise, Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazaar, but it was the unexpected that we loved. The beautiful gardens & parks full of tulips, families picnicking beside the Maramaris sea. Lunch at the Fish Market, Taxim Square & the street where 4 million people walk each & every day.Ataturk's favourite restaurant in Sisli is a must do, the area is alive with people 24 hours a day. The streets are so clean. The Turks believe their front door is what the world sees and it is their responsibility to keep it clean. That begins at the airport gateway. The road into the centre of the city is just beautiful, with flowers, hanging baskets, gardens & trees. The animals are cared as well, most of the street dogs have been tagged & are cared for by the city & it's people. The people are respectful and friendly. The traffic is immense but there are very few bikes which make it more congested but less chaotic. Wonderful city.
Cappadocia is another highlight. Do the Balloon ride. Walk the Zelve Open Air Museum. Go to Avanos and buy a beautiful traditional piece of ceramic. It is very classy. Goreme with its rock-cut churches & frescoes is unbelievable. Go to a Whirling Dervish show at Konya. We then crossed the Taurus Mountains with freshly covered snow to Aspendos. The Roman theatre is spectacular. We then went on to Perge & Gorcek where we boarded a "Blue Cruise" Gulet Yacht for 4 nights. The captain and crew were experienced, very professional and a great bunch of guys. Thank you to the team. We had a fantastic time & the Aegean in April was fresh but very swimmable.(We are Kiwis!) Unfortunately we were a little early for the Garetta-Garetta Turtle but we did see two in the distance using a good pair of binoculars.
Ephesus is a must see & also the Terrace Houses & the Temple of Diana. We then drove to Pergamon where you visit the Temple of Zeus & Athena. We also visited Asclepion the famous first Roman Health Centre and Troy.
From there we drove to Gallipoli. We were lucky enough to have won a ballet ticket to the 100 year commemorations. It was a very emotional and moving experience & our thanks goes to Typhoon for managing to get two of us to and from the site & the commemoration with such ease. Gallipoli, Anzac Cove, Lone Pine & our New Zealand memorial at Chunuk Bair is what has brought our three countries together. It is a real brotherhood. For us it was a most defining moment. Thank you. Hasene for all the organisation, booking of Hotels, arranging tours. To Typhoon and our fantastic driver Andy from Mesyeni Bus company for the exceptional time we have had in Turkey.

Our tour of Ephesus was set up by a person on our roll call for the Ruby Princess. We didn't really know quite to expect as the cost was very modest. Well it turned out to be an excellent tour, a/c mini-bus and an extremely knowledgeable tour guide. Ephesus is a very busy place with thousands of tourists but our guide managed to keep us all together. I can certainly recommend a tour of Ephesus with Meander Travel.

I recently visited Turkey for 9 days with my family and had Meander arrange most of my trip. We started in Marmaris (arrived by ferry from Rhodes), visited Pamukkale, then Ephesus, flew to Istanbul and spent another 5 days there. Meander arranged travel, lodging, private tours, transfers, and events. Everything went flawlessly. The guides, first Hakan in Pammukale/Ephesus and then Funda in Istanbul were outstanding. The drivers and travel arrangements were easy and seamless. Lodging choices were really nice (particularly Cella Boutique Hotel in Selcuk). Cooking class, whirling dervish show, etc... all arranged very well and good choices all around! Will certainly recommend this company to friends.
