In its pristine state, Rayong's Mae Ramphueng Beach is to my mind one of the best beaches in Thailand, a 10 km stretch of golden sand, lapped by the waters of the Gulf of Thailand, and backed by shady, stately Casuarina Pines.

I have previously reviewed Mae Ramphueng Beach and criticised local authorities for allowing the beach to be turned into a garbage dump, with bottles, plastic, polystyrene, and the detritus from fishing boats littering the beach from one end to the other.
