About
In 1968, Director Sung set on his project to turn a piece of deserted 'wasteland' at Jeoji-ri, Hanyoung-myon into something else. Thanks to his strenuous efforts and strong will, we now have the beautiful garden that represents the quintessence of Jeju. Consisting of 7 small gardens and auxiliary facilities, this Spirited Garden provides spaces where you can find peace of mind surrounded by waterfall, ponds, stone bridges as well as trees. All the garden trees, bunjaes, and stones allows you to relieve yourself from any everyday life burden and to take a respite to enjoy the beauty of the nature. High walls built in order to protect trees from strong winds became castles and the architectures built to house exhibitions and to serve convenience purposes now represent the beauty of the nature in Jeju. They are sure to provide people from around the world with chances to think of a new paradigm of life

    A Jeju must do.
Beautiful and relaxing garden with the most amazing collection of Bonsai trees among beautiful natural and man made sculptures for a real zen experience. Signs in different languages, including English, explain everything one would want to know about cultivating Bonsai. The founder's story, included in a photo exhibit, is captivating and inspiring and we were privileged to meet him pruning one of his marvelous trees. One of the highlights of our visit to Jeju

    Spirited Garden Jeju
Spirited garden is such a special spot in Jeju. We came on a weekday so it wasn’t too busy. The bonsai trees are out of this world, you can tell that they have been well taken care of. We also had a chance to meet the owner who started and built the garden. He was such a sweet guy! We didn’t have a chance to try the restaurant and cafe, but we sure will on our next visit!!

The Hidden Gem of Jeju Island
A lovely, serene garden with stunning plants, stones and statues that compliment the island backdrop perfectly. We really enjoyed the two beautiful waterfalls with koi ponds and a bridge. And the watch tower was a huge highlight, as it offers great views over the park and surrounding area, as well as Halla Mountain. To top it off, the founder of the garden was there to greet us, and even gifted a signed copy of his book to our 2 year old son. What a pleasant experience. Highly recommend.

    Wonderful place
This garden is definitely worth a visit to walk around, enjoy the beautiful trees and bonsai and of course to make nice pictures in a beautiful surrounding. You can really see how much love and effort they put into this garden. We were also lucky to meet the creator and owner of the garden, Seong Beom Yeong. He told us about the hard work it was to create this beautiful garden out of nothing. When you go there don't forget to make nice pictures at the ponds with the waterfalls. They provide umbrellas at the entrance for free to protect from sun and heat while you are in the garden. We really enjoyed the time here.

    Stunning bonsai gardens
Rarely seen such a stunning and well kept garden. We wondered around the park for about 2h marvelling at the impressive collection of trees (we even got to feed the fish) as we bumped into the gentleman himself who built the place, who later shared many valuable and entertaining stories with us in the teahouse overlooking the gardens. Such a wonderful afternoon, highly recommend visiting !

    A MUST-SEE VISIT IN JEJU
Amazing place! The owner is usually always at the garden and he's very nice and welcoming. He is very proud of his work and granted it's a beautiful place that many government officials have visited. Highly recommend to come during the Summer time as during Fall or Winter it may not be as beautiful due to the weather but still feel free to go. The signs along the way are very deep and motivational and in multiple languages. There is a long history with the development of the garden and every single stone placed on the property is placed by the owner. You can feel the love and care put into every single bonsai or bunjae tree. The owner is very funny if you can speak Korean but he still tries to communicate the best he can with foreigners.

    Spirited Garden
Lovely garden! Our family had the chance to talk to the founder of the garden at the café! Wonderful person, had a great time talking to him. The restaurant within the gardens was really good too, offering authentic South Korean cuisine.

Inspiring story of a bonsai gardener
We are a family of 4 from the Netherlands (53,51,23&21yo) and are spending 3 nights on Jeju. We heard about the spirited garden from a friend who visited before, so decided to pay a visit ourselves. (The parking lot is spacious so easy to come with rental car). The garden is extremely beautiful and peaceful. We learned how bonsai/bunjae trees are grown and about how they represent a way of life. We got to meet the owner/president when we arrived, he was very welcoming and made the garden visit extra special! His personal attention for visitors of the garden is charming. It is impressive to see how many celebrities have visited the garden. I would recommend the spirited garden to people who like to spend some time away from the city and are curious about the special story of the owner and his garden/trees.

    Beautiful garden!
Beautiful garden with numerous trees and bonsai plants artfully displayed with rock sculptures and water features. It's as amazing that such a garden is a result of a single individual's dream and effort. We also had the pleasure of meeting the creator, Mr Sung. Well worth the visit!

A spa for your mind and soul
Our visit to this place was fantastic! Something in the atmosphere or is it reflection of all the love given to this place by its founder while creating it but you feel magnificent. Calm, amazed, relaxed. If you choose to spend here all day long you will be right also :) The territory is so clean and green, so many beautiful spots for contemplation and just relax. Bonsai, ponds, fish, a lovely cafe with so tasty Jeju citrus tea and strawberry latte. We wandered around, took photos, had a rest on benches in picturesque places, and got rejuvenated for the rest of the trip. Additionally, we were honored to meet a creator and talk to him. Amazing kind person still full of energy. While having a chat with him we got to know that he got 7 surgeries while building the garden and dedicated all his life to creating a peaceful place like this. Currently we need to visit places like this more often and I highly recommend to that while you are in Jeju!

I am not really a garden enthusiast but I've "had to" visit gardens all over the world when travelling with friends. I'd expected an indoor bonsai display, I was wrong. I've never seen such old, artistic and large bonsai trees. The whole garden is an art installation with written commentary on trees and on bonsai techniques which also have insights into the parallels with the human condition. I highly recommend a visit.

An exceptional collection of bonsai trees set in a location of peace and tranquility. The garden is even more remarkable for its story of its conversion from volcanic desert to a superb garden by the vision of one man over more than 50 years. He is still working on the garden and was there pruning the day we visited.
World leaders have visited and I can see why. If you are interested in gardens this is a must.

Well worth the time. A beautiful garden with so many bonsai, koi ponds and flowering plants. A very enjoyable walk with so many photo opportunity’s. Somebody works very hard at keeping this garden in shape. I would call it a must see for those that enjoy gardens.

We loved our visit here, seeing all the amazing plants and learning the story of how the gardens came about through the vision, hard work, and dedication of Mr. Sung. And then we met him, pruning a tree while sitting astride a ladder! He was gracious and kind, and is still working hard on his life’s work at age 86. We also enjoyed the cafe and the hat shop, featuring some high quality (not cheap!) Korean-made hats. We took our time and spent over 3 hours enjoying this amazing spot.

I was not sure what to expect walking into the Spirited Garden but I can absolutely say it exceeded my expectations!!! I immediately was taken by the beauty and peace the fills this place! And was even more moved by this piece of heaven as I read about the history of both Mr. Sung and his words of wisdom about both nature and humanity. I also was amazed to see Mr. Sung trimming a tree while we were visiting, it really brought his story to life for me and made it all the more heartwarming. It's more than a place of beauty and photographic inspiration but has the potential to be a place to connect to nature in a way we often don’t make time for or even understand. By far an experience I won’t forget and I highly recommend visitors make time appreciating this oasis!

I expected a lot more based on the reviews. Upon closer examination, it appears the reviews have "gamed" for Spirited Garden. Note how many 5 star reviews have 1 or 2 contributions. At $15,000 KRW per person this was not worth it unless you are passionate about bonsai trees. Also, not a park for kids.

I went there without much expectation, but it was like a miracle, there was a garden of trees and a garden that thought like a book. As the name of the book suggests.
Thinking Garden was a story about a farmer's love for stones, trees and life..
