We were lucky that we were with our fantastic guide Sagi Levy otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to get in as the place was shut when we first arrived. The outside does not give anything away. The inside is beautiful. A real labour of...More

I have visited Acre several times, and always been taken to see the Jail but on this visit, we saw this quite unique Synagogue. Every surface, floors, walls and ceilings are in magnificent mosaic, showing scenes from the Old Testament and other day to day...More

The Or Torah Synagogue, also know as the Tunisian Synagogue, is a very beautiful synagogue. It was built relatively recently, in a modern looking building and doesn't really look anything like a synagogue from the outside. Inside the synagogue is covered with mosaics, wall to...More

Akko is a mixed Jewish Arab town so with this in mind we were directed to the Tunisian synagogue on Shabbat morning,a brief walk from our hotel. Climbing the stairs to the women's gallery we were astounded by the mosaic work which continued in and...More

This is a beautiful synagogue in Akko. The mosiac decorations are just too amazing to describe. There are 3 floors of mosiac decorations including the stairs to the synagogue itself. Some of them depict the animals, birds, & flowers native to Israel. The sacred scrolls...More

Mosaics everywhere. All beautifully done! The Walls, the ceilings and the floor all had great mosaics. I haven't seen anything like this before!! Took lots of pictures. Also a wonderful stained glass window display honoring the branches of the Israeli military.

A truly remarkable place. I have been to synagogues all over the world and have never seen anything like this. All of Jewish literacy can be found in mosaic on the four floors. Beware: some seem to stop only at the first floor -- there...More
