Basically, I like to explore old buildings thus I'd like to say that Wisma Tumapel is worth your time if you are planning to visit it. The local says and believe that this building is haunted, it even got famous for this kind of reason. Built at the 20's, this used to be a hotel owned by Dutch then changed into a government offices by the Japanese before finally used as a home for students and teachers of University of Malang until it closed down on 2009. Rumors said they will renew it and use it as a hotel of the university. But until now, it remains unattended though at the moment the local government is renovating the buildings. At the moment you enter this place, you will walk into empty halls and rooms, with the dull smell and dirty walls, floors, and staircases (well that makes this place even scarier than it shouldn't be). People come here mostly to experience the "haunted" ambience but other than that, the youth usually comes for their photography activities. I do hope that once the renovation finished, this place becomes more interesting.

Visiting tips : When you visit this place, I suggest you to prepare a little tips for the house guards.

We only went here as it was directly opposite our hotel. It is just an abandoned building.... Nothing more.

It could actually be a slightly interesting attraction if it was made into a sight. A little information about why it is believed to be haunted or something like that would be useful and might make it a bit more eerie.

Really not worth visiting if you have to go out of your way to get there.

I went here because I had heard about supposed haunted sightings ..
We arrived on a rainy evening, gloomy skies and this building standing against the grey skies .. Its run down and not maintained giving it that old dusty look .. Its also surrounded by a metal fence which wants you to avoid the place .. On the inside there are actually a few guards staying on the premises and they get quite smiley to see someone come in to take photos etc .. Must be the highlight of their otherwise quiet days ..
The building actually consists of two segments .. The front looks out onto the street and has glass panes and stairs and a few corridors nothing to exciting about it .. The guards will let you wander around on the inside if you want to unsupervised but there is not much to see really ..
While leaving one of them suggested the building around the back which was actually a little creepier and darker ..
Stairs lead up narrow corridors and all the rooms are sealed so you can't enter .. Am not sure how haunted the place is, but my guide refused to enter the building claiming a sudden headache .. I should mention of all the rooms that I could get photos of for some reason there was one room in the second building that my camera would just not click at for some reason .. Coincidence?
There is also another guest house out of town called Eny's (not to be confused with Eny's guest house currently operating) that is creepy and abandoned photos included as well in this review ..

Disappointing. Old abandoned dirty graffiti-filled house. No ghosts. Not worth the bother. Cross the street and have a nice meal, snack or coffee at Java Dancer.

It is actually the best dutch building complex in Malang area, apart from Niagara Hotel in Lawang. The haunted rumor seems very strong, that it hasn't been maintained properly.

I had the chance to enter one of the buildings (The non-haunted one), and it actually resembled what I saw from Johannes Vermeer's painting. The Painted Glass windows were authentic and beautiful. The floor was still colonial style.

I haven't had any encounter with the ghosts, and I hope I won't have to, in the future.

The Tugu Hotel is much much more spookier compared to this old skool building.

Me and my friends went to this place after a walk around Tugu Statue (I think this is what our guide really can describe =] ). He said this place was one of the greatest old places everybody wanted to go to. When we were here, it was really crowded, there are some group of people taking pictures or just sit around chatting. Nice old place to spend some time!
