About
Interact with long-tailed macaques in their natural habitat in the peaceful ambience of Bali’s lush forests. The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is home to over 1,200 monkeys. As you walk alongside them, you can also check out all the elaborate temples in the area. While guides are always on watch, keep an eye on your belongings and avoid bringing both food and water bottles along. The sanctuary is open daily and an entrance fee is required. You might want to combine your visit to the sanctuary with other attractions in Ubud, including the rice terraces and ancient landmarks. – Tripadvisor

    Huge improvement over the years
A huge improvement the facilities and park since I was there. Not huge but suited us with young kids. We had a double pram and got round fine. Monkeys are a lot better behaved than they used to be now that you can not feed them. They all look well looked after and free to do as they please. Recommend to families in bali.

Excellent for Adults and Kids (leave the pushchair at your hotel)
Excellent experience for adults and kids alike. The monkeys roam free and are generally quite passive around visitors. That said I did have one jump on my head trying to steal my sunglasses!! We got plenty of photos and had a nice walk round. There is a small cafe selling drinks, snacks and ice cream at the main entrance. Point to note - not pushchair / buggy friendly. Despite seeing photos of others with them, this is Bali - it’s very undulating and full of steps. Not suitable for push chairs at all and will limit where you can go and what you can do.

    Monkeys galore
The monkeys realized that the temples were a safe place to exist in the crowded island of Bali. The 1260 long-tailed macaques, have now provided a source of income for the community as the Monkey Forest draws 10-15,000 visitors a month . The monkeys are unfazed by all the people around and we saw a few jump up on people to take bottles out of backpacks. Be sure to not have any loose items and keep cell phones very close. There are some amazing sculptures around and we saw some funeral processions. There are many photo opportunities here. Just hold tight to your belongings.

Beautiful and very fun, but check yourself for ticks afterwards!
It was a really unique and fun experience to walk around a temple in the jungle with so many monkeys. The views were breathtaking and the monkeys were very tame. I don't recommend getting selfies with them as even the trained ones can bite and you will need a rabies shot. Even though I didn’t touch any, I walked too close as the same night I found a tick on my foot. I recommend to check yourselves after going as you can likely prevent Lyme's disease if you remove the ticks within 24h!

    Cute monkeys
It was a fantastic decision to come here. I really liked it, despite the fact that there were a lot of restrictions to follow. However, those rules had a purpose. Make sure you stick to the rules. The antics, cuteness, and humour of monkeys could not be overstated. It is wonderful that drivers are allowed to enter with you. Although there was a lot of foot traffic, I wasn't surprised because this is a very popular tourist destination.

Nice to see the monkey’s, nothing overly special though
We visited in the afternoon and it was very hot and humid. There are hundreds of monkeys about and you are of course walking in their home, not a zoo. So be prepared for them to jump on your shoulder or smell food in your bag and to go for it! There are monkeys of all ages here, the little babies are of course very cute. FYI Grab taxi’s can’t come and pick you up from inside the gate, you need to go to the main road but its a one way system, so if you miss them they’ll ask you to cancel because it will take them 10+ minutes to drive back around given the traffic.

    SO many monkeys
Fantastic excursion and definitely one of the top things to do in Ubud. The monkeys were quite outgoing and naughty at the same time. It just takes about an hour to walk around, so it's well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Exciting natural habitat to watch the monkeys
Really fun place to visit to see the wild long tailed macaques, but use common sense and be respectful to the animals. The monkeys are everywhere in the place and roam freely. They are very accustomed to being around people and WILL take items from you. I made sure not to wear a hat, earrings, or carry around any loose items. I was careful with my phone. Do not try to feed them or touch them. The flora through the forest was awesome and you felt like you were waking through the jungle. There a so many monkeys and they are really exciting to watch their behaviors and interactions with one another. I watched one turn a faucet on and drink from it and some juvenile ones swimming and playing in a creek, and a baby nursing from a mother and loved the entire experience. I wish we had had time to go back back second day. A must do while in Ubud. We walked there right from our hotel Tegal Sari.

    See Macaques close up
Several families of Balinese Macaques in this forest in the centre of Ubud. Spent a couple of hours walking the various paths and observing the monkeys. They are mischievous so watch your belongings and they do like their well known introduction ritual to each other. Thoroughly enjoyed my time in the forest.

    funny monkeys
So funny watching all the monkeys. Some interact with people. Some don't. They are monkeys though so do listen to the recommendation about not taking personal belongings and sunglasses and food etc in. The may well steal them. You can stash your stuff at reception for free.

.....this is one place you can see them close up, feeding, relaxing, playing and getting friendly with one another. You are asked not to approach them, feed or try to pet them for a reason. You are in their evironment, so leave them to it. You will see odd ones outside the confines of the 'park' and they are found in areas all over Bali.

The entrance price isn't that expensive and there are some pleasant areas to wander, or just sit. Go early in the day, before it gets busy. At the end of the day, the monkeys are not quite so receptive of visitors.

The park is a self walking tour through a nice little park. Entrance fee was about 6-7 usd a person.
Apparently the monkeys here aren't as friendly as other Monkeys around the island. you can't touch and do much with the monkeys and we were done with it in about an hour.

I was told there are much better Monkey Sanctuaries near by if you are doing tours or can drive yourself. Not far from Ubud for a better experience.

Becareful in there. Do not bring a knapsack or backpack or any food unless you want a monkey to jump down on you for out of no where and start to unzip your back. I witness it. It is not pretty. Remember you are not at the ZOO. You are in their environment. You are a visitor in their home. I only walked in there with my phone and a camera. They still came close.

TOURISTS BEWARE Exiting the Monkey Forest because it is a trap to make you spend your money on the way out. The people will hold on to your hand try to pull you even though you try to smile and be nice about it. I felt bad they Got me however I think that was day 2 in Ubud and on the Island so I learned quick. Dont purchase things there go into down much less expensive just keep walking and avoid eye contact then you should be alright.
It is something worth checking out if you are staying in Ubud

I was a bit hesitant to visit the Monkey Forest after hearing about people being bitten and scratched however my friends really wanted to check it out. It was great! There were so many monkeys and a majority of them were well behaved. There was clear signage showing you the different paths and how to act around the monkeys. There were a lot of park attendants watching out incase monkeys (or people) started acting funny. The pricing was quite reasonable ($8 AUD can’t complain) and the ladies at the front counter were very helpful.

The only downside was the people that didn’t listen to the rules! There was a lot of crying and lost water bottles or bags from those people but that’s what happens!

I must say not to often do you get a selfie w a monkey, however, i didn’t like the energy at this place. The monkeys were sneaky and the locals were panhandlers. They tell you not to feed the monkeys bc they want u to pay them to take a selfie and the only way to do that is to actually feed the monkey. Therefore, take your peanuts, the hell with them. I can’t stand panhandlers. Also, i videoed our entire Bali experience and i mean we did EVERYTHING. . If you like to see my experience every step of the way, it is on my Instagram (@ethnicmilkshake)under my highlights titled “Bali” and “Bali2” enjoy!

There are Monkeys all around...They sometimes like to play with you...safe though. Dont feed the monkeys and dont disturb them they are used to human beings and are curious like small children..may like to check out your bags and carry on for eatables or something to play with. The baby monkeys are the cutest...lovely. Monkeys are respected here so do not trouble them as you are in their territory.

Look, I love this place. It’s forest, there’s a temple and lots of sculptures, but how many stupid tourists did I see touching baby monkeys then getting more than they bargained for? LOTS! There are signs everywhere saying don’t touch the young monkeys, watch your belongings etc, but people still let them climb on their bags, then arms and shoulders. Suddenly the “ cute” monkey acts like what it is, a wild animal and pulls their hair or worse still there older, bigger mum or dad monkey turns up to protect their young by jumping on people or screeching meanacingly with their teeth bared.
This is a great place to wander around, but be sensible people. Please don’t try to hold monkeys hands, let them climb on you or pat them. It almost always ends in tears!

Great place to visit. Effortless walking and nicely paved pathways. Much of the sculptures are in mosaic and a few covered with green moss. An abundance of trees that provide great shade. One is not allowed to carry food r feed the monkeys. Only when you inside you will appreciate why. I guess there are over 500 monkeys that even seem to have developed a friendly relationship with humans. One monkey took off a tourists tested glasses and went high up into a tree and hid it. thankfully it didn't fall into the river which is way below. An efficient staff member distracted the monkey with a banana and climbed the tree to retrieve it. So be rather careful.

It was neat to see all of the monkeys interacting in a natural environment as opposed to something like a zoo.

We had a guide with us; he gave a great background on behavior, history, and warnings.

The monkeys, much like all the roaming Balinese dogs, are free to be themselves with the people providing them food/shelter.

We arrived in the morning so we could see the different families and the feeding. Each monkey group had its own feeding station (to avoid fighting) and the feeding staff would ‘call’ them when the food is available.

Beautiful forest and lovely nature walk make this a must-do while in Bali.

Unsure how i feel about this, i saw some of the park staff goad the monkeys to get a reaction and a life from the tourist.
You have to have your eyes everywhere as one monkey jumped on my back and hugged me like a backpack - not as cute as it sounds as it wanted to take something from me.
Lots of monkeys , lots of babies , a nice experience.
