My husband and I recently did a private 2 week diving safari around Bali organised by Aquamarine. The company provided us with a sample dive itinerary with suggested accommodation in resorts along the way. We modified aspects of this and they were very flexible in making changes. We were picked up at the airport by a driver with a minivan and made the long drive to Mimpi Resort Menjangan in the north west of Bali. The resort and location are lovely. Our driver and dive guide picked us up from the resort the following morning and made the very short drive to the public pier next door. All our gear was sorted into personal crates which were then totally taken care of by the guide for the rest of the trip. A takeaway lunch was ordered each day and taken with us on the boat. We had a traditional timber boat with shade protection all to ourselves. The diving in this area was great. After a few days here we moved on to Mimpi Resort Tulumban diving along the way. Here we dived out of a resort just near the Liberty wreck so we had access to a restaurant for our included lunch, toilets, showers and shade. During our stay here we also dived in Amed, again based at a local restaurant/resort for the day. All these days diving were shore dives. Again all fantastic sites. After staying at Tulumban we drove to Candidasa where we had arranged our own private accommodation for the week. Each day a driver and our guide would pick us up, take us to PadangBai, dive out of one of Aquamarine's very comfortable speedboats with cabin and toilet, having takeaway lunch ordered from one of the local restaurants, then driving us back to our accommodation. On the days we dived out of PadangBai we were occasionally accompanied by 1 or 2 other divers. Our guide looked after our gear for the entire trip. Our guide Endy was excellent, the dive sites fantastic - a great mix of reefs, walls, muck, wreck and sandy bottom diving. Something for everyone. We were never rushed and felt very safe all the time. The accommodation was very good, the food good and water was always available. Fresh towels were provided every day. The minivan drivers were very safety conscious, and the vans were always kept clean and in good condition. Aquamarine were a very professional company to dive with and we would definitely go back and do one of these safaris again.

We were delighted to hear you and R had such a good time diving with Endy, your AquaMarine dive guide.
For the diving in NW Bali, we use boats licensed by the West Bali National Park. [your quote: “We had a traditional timber boat with shade protection all to ourselves”]
You did indeed do a lovely selection of dive locations: Menjangan Island (walls); Puri Jati (muck); the Tulamben and Amed areas with the 120m USAT Liberty Shipwreck, reefs, walls/drop-offs; then outside Padangbai on the east coast in the Blue Lagoon Area, Mimpang and Tepekong, and finally over at Nusa Penida including Manta Point :-)
The AMD-B motto is ‘Safety & Enjoyment’ and it’s great to hear we achieved that for you both.

We bought the trip to Tulamben/Amed (diving and snorkeling 2 days). Started exactly in time. Super comfortable bus for sleeping, good AC, social distancing - everyone was sitting in masks, free water and stops on the way.
Happy that chose to pay more and go by bus, not bikes, in the rain season it was the best our decision. 2 hours sleep in the bus and ready to dive.
We had super cool guide for snorkeling in Tulamben. Told him, what we want to see, and he found EVERYTHING for us. I saw barracudas, turtle, unicorn fish and EVEN MANTAS in Tulamben (and Amed too)! Btw guide told that once he saw a whale here!
In comparison. Guide in the other dive shop in Tulamben was not really care what we wanna see, so he just was near and didn't try to find what we was interested in 😔
The weather was not sunny so our guide entertained us teaching how to do free dive (so we even swam into the wreck ship and saw fish closer) and how to do cool tricks with bubbles.
So don't worry: whatever the weather you'll have cool time anyway.
Btw we where the only among dive shops who had equipment for rest in the ocean, so other snorkelers swam to us to have rest and not go out from the water for this purpose.
Equipment in common good quality. Without holes and easy to dress (again in comparison with the other dive shop).
We snorkeled about 2 hours. Guide showed us 3 locations. Recommend to take camera, with free dive you can do lots of cool photos with underwater statues and ship.
Shower, towels included so no necessary to take yours. Tasty local lunch. In Amed bf did his rescue dive course. For us was necessary instructor has good pronunciation.
Really high service quality from ordering tours (who tired from local service - non-local managers in Aquamarine included) to guiding.
Who looking for interesting. romantic and good service time spending with significant other (especially in coming Valentine's day) recommend Aquamarine's tours. Impressions and comfort without bad surprises.

I did a couple of days pleasure diving with AMD-B last month and can only post positivity all round. The day before my 1st day of diving I popped into the shop/centre along with a friend to put faces to names that I had been speaking to via email. All the staff were welcoming and friendly which is always good when we judge things by 1st impressions (even though we claim we don't). MY pickup from the hotel was always on time and Mitra, my guide, like the shop staff was friendly and knew what he was doing and where he was going at the different sites we dived at.
When visiting Bali again would I book through AMD-B? Certainly, 100% :)

The reservation process was excellent, and the dive masters and all of the service and transportation were excellent. Aquamarine organized hotel accomodations and all transportation and dives for 8 days and 18 dives, all around the island of Bali. They organized and took care of our equipment and prepared it for each dive. They arranged their own boats as well as small boats as needed and showed us the best of Bali. Highly recommend!

We were delighted to hear you and your husband, P, and your friends V and R, had such a great time diving and snorkelling with Aan and Putu, your AMD-B Dive Guides.
I see you visited Menjangan Island (wall diving just off Bali’s NW point) and Puri Jati where you spotted some lovely muck critters, Tulamben (home of the 120m USAT Liberty Shipwreck) and Amed in NE Bali, and the Blue Lagoon Area outside Padangbai on the east coast.
Putu’s daily Dive Trip Reports show that, amongst many other marinelife, you saw Giant frogfishes, Orangutan crabs, strawberry nudibranch, mating octopus meeting and lots of Flying gurnards. It all sounds excellent and reminds me that I should get out of the office more often, LoriStArnault!
Please thank your friends for recommending AMD-B to you. We look forward to welcoming them, and the four of you, back to Bali again before too long.

From booking right through to departure, Aquamarine Diving were superb in communication and delivery of the holiday. The drivers who ferried us around knew exactly how to handle the hordes of motorbikes who were all over the place. The venues, Mimpi Resort, Griya Santrian were first class in all aspects. Tulamben Oceanview was perfectly placed for the USAT Liberty wreck dive. The dives selected by AMD were some of the best I have done and the dive leader, Aan had outstanding local knowledge to give us a wonderful diving experience. AMD were also flexible when the weather changed, knowing alternative sites to dive. I have no hesitation in recommending AMD (and Aan) to provide an excellent diving experience, taking in the best of underwater Bali.

I believe the points you raised about AMD-B pre-trip communication, land transport, accommodations, and chosen dive sites, will be useful to other people looking for a Bali dive operator.

I recently completed my OWC with AMD-B and had the best experience. I booked relatively last minute but Aji was so helpful in arranging everything for me and was very responsive to emails which was super helpful as I planned my hotel and flights around the dives.
Everything was extremely well organised and ran like clockwork. The dive instructor (Marta) was excellent - this was my first time ever scuba diving and he was patient but also pushed me to succeed. I felt safe the entire time (even though dives 1 and 2 were in very strong currents) and I passed no problem!
Highly recommend AMD-B if you are looking to certify, and I know I will definitely use them again for my recreational dives in and around Bali (and beyond!)
Thank you all for a wonderful experience, and for getting me started on an adventurous journey in the world of Scuba Diving!!

Thank you for taking the time to review your PADI Open Water Diver Course with AquaMarine Diving – Bali.
We dive year-round in Bali however, one of the reasons this month (January) is a less popular time is that we can have low visibility and/or currents where we don’t normally get them, eg: as you experienced in Blue Lagoon.
However, you did very well on the course – congratulations HJLaurie :-)
And on your second day of diving, you went to Tulamben Bay: Home of the famous 120m USAT Liberty Shipwreck. What an amazing place to get certified PADI OWD!
I have passed on your appreciation to Aji and Marta. We all very much look forward to welcoming you back before long, HJLaurie. And yes: Welcome the ‘other’ 70% of the planet!

This is my I don't know how many "th" trip to Tulamben and the Liberty Ship and I think that's enough. Having said that, the dive trip with AMD-B was excellent. We were picked up on time after a minor glitch in locations, and transferred quickly (albeit 2.5 hours) by our driver Wayan to the dive location. Note - if you're prone to car sickness you might want to consider some medication, as the roads are windy and the bus tends to sway a little.
Our dive guide Aán sorted out the paperwork and gave us a site briefing. We like to look around rather than seek anything in particular and he was happy to show us all over the ship. It's very busy, with many other divers and snorkellers around but if you can get out a bit and into the deeper parts it's not so bad.
A very good experience with AMD-B (possibly our second or third) and we'll be using them again, possibly on a few longer trips to get out of the busy parts of Bali.
Our dive guide Aán sorted out the paperwork and gave us a site briefing. We like to look around rather than seek anything in particular and he was happy to show us all over the ship. It's very busy, with many other divers and snorkellers around but if you can get out a bit and into the deeper parts it's not so bad.

Thank you for taking the time to review your family’s Day Trip to Tulamben Bay with AMD-B’s PADI OWSI Aan – it’s great to hear you all enjoyed yourselves :-) and we don’t get many reviews from Bali residents so that’s appreciated.
You said you “like to look around rather than seek anything in particular” and so I wondered if you’re into muck-diving? You said you’ve done enough diving actually on the USAT Liberty Shipwreck however – still within the bay – there’s the Wall/Drop-off and the Coral Garden, and in the immediate area, there are a lot of muck sites. Just a thought.
I see you used our Valentine’s Weekend 2-for-1 Special for diving with your daughter, well done (it was surprisingly under-used).

I did my open water certification through AMD and the service from the entire team was seamless - Cerys and Laura were very helpful in getting me registered and replied to my emails quickly. Ketut was a good, patient instructor who explained everything simply which made learning the skills a lot easier. The equipment was well maintained and dive locations were amazing! Overall I had an fantastic experience and would highly recommend using them 😊 keep up the great work AMD🙌🏻

Went diving with Aquamarine on the 7th of September 2019 through an auction for the PADI Women's Day & Pink Ribbon event. The communication with Pito was very smooth and done in a prompt manner. Every details were discussed via email. Thanks so much for this!
I was still living in Uluwatu back then, so the land transport to Padangbai took quite sometimes and I kind of feel bad that the driver and divemaster had to pick me up so early in the morning and back late at night to drop me off. Thiis highly appreciated. The minibus is very comfortable and spacious. I have dived with many other dive shops in Bali and aquamarine's minibus is by far the best.
The boat that took us from Padangbai to Nusa Penida was aquamarine's biggest so not only it took us faster than I anticipated, it was very comfortable to those who are prone to seasickness.
My guide Wilan was very friendly, patient and thorough with his briefings. I was very lucky that it was me and him in our group. It got really cold in Manta Point so I signalled him that I wanted to cut the dive short as we have discussed beforehand on the boat before jumping in.
I would most definitely love to come back diving with you guys again. Thanks so much for such an above and beyond service.
I know the pandemic is putting all businesses on hold, and I sincerely hope that aquamarine and the crew will survive this storm.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to Wilan’s ‘Dive Trip Reports’ from 9mths ago but I’m delighted to hear you enjoyed your dives at Manta Point (despite feeling cold) and Crystal Bay - I see from Pito’s notes you described it as a “roller coaster current” :-)
I also see from Pito’s notes that you donated to Yayasan Senyum (Smile Foundation of Bali); the charity we supported in 3rd quarter last year. Thank you for that too, Nita :-)
It’s great to get a review from an experienced diver (Rescue, with 400+ dives) and I hope it will be useful for people looking for recommendations for diving in Bali.

I had the most wonderful experience diving in Bali with AMD. Everything from all the logistics (Thank you Cerys for your assistance in dive site selection and schedule), the transportation (including two 2 hour drives), their dive guides (Many Thanks to Sujana and Inal who both had an eagle eye spotting the smallest critters from a distance), the equipment, and most important to any diver, the dives themselves (safety, pace, process, etc.) were superb. Bali is deservedly so a world-class dive destination, and I’d whole-heartedly endorse AMD as a top shop to help anyone experience Bali.
Finally, I did not do any trainings with AMD. But both guides’ experience and demeanor leads me to assume they’d be excellent with new divers as well.

We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your Safari (dive/accom pkg) with Inal and Sujana, visiting Amed, Tulamben, and Nusa Penida including Manta Point. You packed quite a lot into a relatively short space of time :-)
The Dive Guide Reports show you saw a wide range of marinelife including – of course! - Manta rays!
“the most wonderful experience” is high praise and I have to say (repeat :-) ) that I have a great team; and yes, my dive staff are great with all divers regardless of interest, levels of interest (and fitness!), etc.
Bali is indeed a “world-class dive destination”, I’m very lucky to live here!

Do all dives require certification? We would like to do the Nusa Penida manta dive and have dived before, but we do not have any certificate.

We are padi divers with 25 years experience. Are diving now in lombok but would like to try Bali. Staying in Sanur for 16 days till March 24. I really want to see soft corals, sea horses, clown fish. We dive western Caribbean a lot and these fish and corals are not endemic to our area. I also Dive nitrox. Is this doable with your business?

We usually dive with 11 liters (80cu) aluminium tanks (standard in bali), on request we also provide 15 liters for an extra charge.
