The global headquarter of one of the sects of the Tibetian people. A wonderful architectural structure, the interiors of which leave one spell bound. A must visit.

Reached by 5pm. after a difficult cab ride from Gangtok.Poor road condition.But it was a blessing to visit the main temple.The monks were kind and welcoming enough to open the door on request.

Once the taxi drops you off at the gate of the monastery, it is a short walk up. Typically quaint Tibetan architecture with a school for monks.

Yes, should be possible to visit the same day. Check the route from where you’re staying, and consider visiting other places basis time you’d like to spend at Monastery

Shared jeeps are available from Gangtok to Rumtek monastery till 1500HRS.(appx) but it depends on availability. Same for returning, but you may not get any shared taxi after 1200HRS. So plan accordingly. In this respect it... More
